Denese Checketts 
1938-2024

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Denese Carr Checketts, 85, returned home with honor on April 7, 2024.  She was born on June 11, 1938, to Albert and Aura Mower Carr in Ogden, Utah.  

She attended Lewis Elementary, Lewis Jr. High School, Ogden High School, Weber and Utah State Universities, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education. She taught cooking and sewing at Highland Jr. High and Ben Lomond High Schools. She married Walter David Checketts on June 10, 1968, in the Salt Lake City Temple, they shared 56 years together. 

Denese was a School Teacher and a remarkable homemaker. She was a member of the North Ogden 15th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as young women’s president for several years, ward Organist, girl’s camp cook, the cub scouts, and other callings.

She enjoyed cooking, making homemade candies, baking cookies, caking decorating, crossword puzzles, playing the piano and serving and helping others. 

She is survived by her husband David Checketts children Darin (Heather) Checketts, Danielle (Andy) Nef; grandchildren Brianna, Andrea, Natalie, Benjamin, Josh, and Bryson, sister Carolyn Duggins. She is preceded in death by two sons, Daryl and Devin Checketts; and her parents Albert and Aura Carr.

Services will be Saturday, April 13, 2024, 1:30 pm at North Ogden 15th Ward, 770 E. 2100 N. North Ogden, Utah.  A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden Utah, and prior to the services at the church 12-1 pm. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
