Marsha Hancock Obituary

Surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and daughter returned to our loving Heavenly Father on 24 March 2024.

Marsha Herrick Hancock was born January 27, 1951 to LeRoy and Charlene Herrick in West Weber, Utah. She shared her childhood home with her grandparents and was blessed to grow up surrounded by her loving parents, sisters Ann and Lesa, and brother Ross. Marsha attended West Weber Elementary, Wahlquist Junior High, and Weber High School, where she was a Warriorette and a Chatonelle at Weber State College. Marsha loved dancing and shared her talents for many years by teaching children to dance.

Marsha and her sweetheart, Michael L. Hancock, were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on 18 May 1970. Throughout Marsha’s life, she prioritized her family and her faith above all else; she sacrificed endlessly to serve others.

Marsha was a devoted daughter who spent countless hours providing care to her parents as they aged. She was an affectionate mother and grandmother to four children, 21 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She dedicated her life to her loved ones. If a child or grandchild had an activity, she was present. Marsha loved each one of her babies with whom she nurtured a unique, personal, individual relationship. She was blessed with a gift to enable those around her to experience their importance to her and to God. With patience and persistence, gentleness and generosity, devotion and determination, Marsha served God by lovingly serving others.

Marsha had a beautiful talent for gathering all of her loved ones and their friends to her home where her kindness and compassion were abundantly present. Her home was the place everyone wanted to be. She had a gift for making everyone feel they were the most important. Her home was filled with laughter and lightheartedness; patience and peace; light and love.

Marsha had a gift to find the cheerful, uplifting, and joyful moments. She loved to laugh! She was often found with tears running down her cheeks, her hands covering her mouth, after laughing out loud at something she found fun and silly. Her buoyant laughter filled our hearts and lifted our souls. Like sunshine on a cloudy day, Marsha was warmth and light when it was needed most. Her laughter was infectious, and her smile was heartening.

Above all, Marsha was a faithful and devoted follower of Jesus Christ; she served her family and community throughout her life. In 2013, she courageously chose to serve her Savior in the England London South Mission as a full-time missionary. Mike and Marsha were assigned to serve on the Island of Guernsey, where she brought hope and joy to all she served. Upon her return from her cherished Guernsey, Marsha continued to serve her Savior in the Utah Ogden Mission as a full-time missionary and in the Ogden Temple as an ordinance worker. Hers was a life of devotion to Jesus Christ; she never wavered in her desire and effort to be like Him.

Marsha is preceded in death by her parents; baby brother, Brent; and granddaughter, Grace. She is survived by her husband of 53 years; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and children, Ryan and Jana Hancock of Plain City; Amie and Erik Hickenlooper of Plain City; Jed and Natalie Hancock of Wellsville; Kyle and Stephanie Hancock of Wellsville; her siblings, Ross and Laree Herrick of West Weber; Ann and John Messerly of North Ogden; Lesa and Scott Ross of Mantua. Her love permeates their lives.

Our family would like to express gratitude to our loving extended family, ward family, friends, and caregivers who cared for mom after she experienced complications of a brain aneurysm.
