Afton Elizabeth Evans Koford Obituary (1918 - 2010)

OGDEN, UT - After the sun had set over the new fallen snow on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, Afton Elizabeth Evans Koford left this earth to join the angels in Heaven. Afton was a sweet and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Aunt and Friend. Afton was born August 24, 1918 in Bothwell, Utah, a daughter of Alvin King Evans and Hattie Jane Watson Evans. She spent much of her life living in Garland, Utah and graduated from Bear River High School. Afton married Merwin Porritt Koford on April 28, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They continued to live in Garland before moving to Ogden, Utah in 1958. Merwin passed away February 1, 1981. Afton was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions in the church. She was a beautiful seamstress, enjoyed bowling, cooking, camping, vacations in Hawaii and shopping. One of her favorite pastimes was her Saturday trips to Willey's for a hot dog and then to the mall to people-watch. She was an avid Jazz fan and loved to laugh at a good joke. Afton loved her family most of all and spent time with them every chance she could. Afton was blessed with three children: Patsy (Bruce) Christensen, Brigham City, UT; Gene (Jean) Koford, Ogden, UT; Dale Koford and Jone` Koford, Nashville, TN. She has 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Willow Glen Rehabilitation Center and Country Lane Assisted Living Center in Brigham City, Utah for the loving care and attention towards Afton over the last year. A celebration of Afton's life will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:30 pm. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT. Friends may call Saturday 12:30 to 1:15 pm at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Bothwell Cemetery.
