AGAPITO ONOFRE (PETE) ARCHULETA
CLINTON -- Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Pete Archuleta, 69, returned to his Father in Heaven in the arms of his devoted wife on Wednesday, March 31, 2004. Pete was born August 1, 1934 in Lone Tree, CO., a son of Agapito Archuleta and Altagracia Cordova Archuleta. He was married to Manuelita (Maggie) Archuleta on June 11, 1955; they were later divorced. He married Judy R. Harris on May 28, 1976.
At a young age he worked in the Colorado timber with his father and brothers. In 1952 he joined the Air Force and served his country in the Korean War as a reconnaissance photographer. He graduated from college with a degree in Accounting. Civil service was Pete's calling. He worked for HAFB as a jet-engine mechanic and as a fund-certification officer. He worked eighteen years in law-enforcement, eleven years as a Weber County Deputy and seven years as the Chief of Police for Clearfield City, UT. He continued his civil service until retirement at HAFB as an Air Reserve Technician with the 419th Tactical Fighter Wing and finally as Chief, Security branch of the 545th Tactical Fighter Wing.
After an acute heart attack in July 1996, he was treated at the LDS Hospital. Due to his strength and courage he was a pioneer in the use of the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). He was blessed and received his donor heart in November 1996.
He was an accomplished musician and taught his children a love of music. He helped them perform professionally. He enjoyed raising paint horses, hunting, restoring old vehicles and playing music. He loved his family and spending time with them was his greatest joy. He will be greatly missed.
His parents preceded him in death. Pete is survived by his wife Judy and his children, Frank (Kathy), Don (Maryann), Gary J. (Brenda), Susan (Chris) McRae, Tony (Roxanne), Craig (Ursula), Gordon (Kathy) and Melissa Taggart; his step-children, Mark Harris, Jeff (Vickie) Harris, and Brian Harris.
