Allene Rowe Smith Nauta Obituary (1925 - 2006)

Allene S. Nauta CLEARFIELD -- Allene Rowe Smith Nauta, 81, returned to her Heavenly Father on December 15, 2006. She left this world peacefully with her devoted husband of fifty-nine years at her side. The fifth of eight children, she was born in Spanish Fork, Utah, on her father's birthday, March 27, 1925, to Albert Elwood Smith and Martha Jeanette (Nettie) Cox. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School and Seminary where she made many lifelong friends. She met her eternal sweetheart, Richard M. (Dick) Nauta of Detroit, Michigan, while on a family vacation at Jenny's Lake in the Teton Mountains. They were married October 11, 1947, by Bishop Thomas L. Adams, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized ten years later to the day in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they lovingly raised five children, Sharon (Dave) Steele and Marti (Brent) Carter of West Point; Rick (Judy) Nauta of Hooper, Margie (Kent) Lee of Clinton; and David (Lis) Nauta of Santaquin, Utah. A member of the LDS church, she served faithfully in many callings, including Primary teacher, Cub Scout den mother, drama director, and homemaking leader. She received a Certificate of Service in recognition of her devotion to the LDS genealogy extraction program. She enjoyed visiting teaching and home teaching with her sweetheart in their later years. For many years she volunteered as a 4-H leader, touching the lives of many young people. She served as Captain of the Wild Rose Camp Daughters of Utah Pioneers and delighted in her membership in the Clearfield Literary Guild. She was a dedicated Pink Lady volunteer at Davis Hospital. She began her civil service career at IRS and later transferred to Hill Air Force Base where she worked as a computer aid until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, doing crafts, sewing, quilting and gardening. She designed and crocheted beautiful blessing dresses for her daughters and granddaughters using a very fine cotton thread. She made many lovely porcelain dolls. She was well-known for her lemon meringue pies. She loved to fish with her husband from the family canoe, cook, and play games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on their many vacations and camping trips. One of her favorite spots was Smith and Morehouse. She treasured rides in the car and river rafting down the Green River. In her later years, she always had packages of Junior Mints for her grandkids and tulip bulbs for her children. For twelve years she and her husband loved wintering in Arizona where she worked hard to make their property near Quartzsite the prettiest lot in Rainbow Acres. She leaves behind her husband and children, twenty-nine grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. She is survived by two older brothers, Wallace E. (Alice) Smith of Roy and Albert G. (Clara) Smith, of Spanish Fork and two sisters, Carol Robinett of Farr West, and Barbara Miller of Logan. She will be missed by the many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Leeny. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Doris Burraston Walker and Virginia Lewis Pagano, one brother, Dean C. Smith, and a son-in-law, Brent R. Carter. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clearfield Fifth Ward Park Chapel, 838 East 600 South. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West and on Wednesday at the church from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
