Alton Read Jones Obituary (1933 - 2018)

Alton Read Jones Alton Read Jones passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2018 at the age of 85. Born March 2, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Alton Flinders and Annie Read Jones. On April 10, 1953 he married Patricia Kingston after 24 years of marriage she passed away on March 28, 1977. On June 2, 1984 Read married Lois LaRee Christensen after 31 years of marriage she passed away on May 8, 2016. Read served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Corporal. He lived his whole life in Hooper, Utah. He attended Hooper Elementary, Weber High School and Weber State University. Read was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Cub Scout leader, Boy Scout Leader and the Boy Scout Troop bugler, High Priest Group Leader and Ward Executive secretary. He retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after 35 Yrs. He was a member of the 41 Club at Promontory for hunting. He loved hunting, fishing, traveling all over the world. Loved sweets, gardening and yardwork. Most of all he loved spending time with family, friends and his grandkids. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his children: Michael R. (Alison) Jones of Hooper, Gary P. Jones of Harrisville, Lori Page (Troy) Hill from Texas , and 8 grandchildren: Brandon, Natalie, Heidi, Ryan, Ashley, Garrett, Kyle, Aubree and 17 great grandchildren. His sisters: Norrine (Jim) Gardiner, ReNae (the Late Devon) Dennison, and Karen (Stephen) Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents, both wives, two sons: Jimmy and Don Jones. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the Primary Children's Hospital. Services will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Hooper Stake Center 5375 S 5900 W. Hooper, Utah, at 11:00 AM. With a viewing on Thursday May 10, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Myers Mortuary 5865 S. 1900 W. Roy, Utah and prior to the service 9:40 - 10:40 AM at the church.
