Alvin Gallegos

ROY - Alvin Gallegos, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the age of 86.

He was born May 18, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA to Pablo Gallegos and Anecita Jaso. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He grew up in Tonopah, NV with 9 siblings and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 15, 1945. After an honorable discharge he started his career at Southern Pacific Railroad where he retired after 27 years of service. During this time he also worked at Bill's OK Barber Shop on Kiesel Avenue in Ogden, Utah. He went on to drive a Handi-Trans bus for 5 years to help other seniors stay mobile and active and to give back to his community.

In October of 1949 he married Catalina Muniz and they shared 64 years together. After retirement they went on to an active life of camping, golfing, dancing and spending time with family. Alvin enjoyed singing and playing the guitar for family and friends.

Alvin is survived by his wife Catalina "Katie" Gallegos and their four children; Max Gallegos, Cindy (David) Miconi, Vince (Shellie) Gallegos, Tony (Susan) Gallegos. Also surviving are 6 grand children, Daniel (Delana) Miconi, Stephanie (Stephen) Manz, Catalina Gallegos, Alex Gallegos, Jaden Gallegos and Talia Gallegos along with 5 great grandchildren, Daniel and Rylan Miconi, and Olivia, Lillianna, and Juliette Manz.

He is survived by his siblings, Ramona English, Rebecca Podgorney, Frank, John, Lupe, and Maurice Gallegos. He was preceded in death by Crespin Gallegos, Mary Mendoza and Irene Medina.

A visitation will be held at Myers Roy Mortuary 5865 S. 1900 W, Roy, UT on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary following; and Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church , 514 24th St., Ogden, UT, at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, March 10, 2014.
