ALVIN "GEORGE" NICHOLS
SYRACUSE - Alvin "George" Nichols, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 6, 2006 with his wife, Ann, by his side following a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born December 15, 1930 in Ogden, Utah, the oldest son of Alvin Clarence "Nick" and Leah Clark Nichols. He attended school in Salmon, Boise and Ashton, Idaho, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He then received his BS degree in Journalism from Idaho State University. George married his eternal sweetheart, Ann Hawkins, in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 31, 1956. He was thrilled to celebrate their 50th wedding on July 4th at a special dinner with his children and grandchildren.
He worked for the Idaho Fish and Game Department before relocating his young family to Clearfield, Utah to open "Hawkins" Red Steer Drive-In. In recent years he and his wife were involved in Dairy Queen franchises, most recently in Centerville, Utah. He was involved in the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce and Clearfield Kiwanis Club.
He was the ultimate "people person" and was an instant friend to anyone with whom he came in contact. He showed integrity in everything he did, whether it was family, business, community and especially in serving his Heavenly Father. He has always been an active member of the LDS church. He served in numerous church callings including high councilor, teacher and scout leader. He served in three bishoprics, including Bishop of the Roy 3rd Ward. At the time of his death he was serving beside his wife as missionaries at the LDS Conference Center. He was currently serving in the High Priest Group in his Syracuse Ward. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He had a strong testimony of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
His favorite hobbies were flying, reading, spending time with his family and spending time at his cabin in Island Park.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Greg (Kim) Nichols, Bountiful; Mike (Jan) Nichols, North Ogden; Tim (Stacie) Nichols, Elwood; Julie (Scott) Thompson, West Bountiful; Becky (Mark) Roundy, West Haven; and Kirk (Amanda) Nichols, of Pleasant Grove; 25 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; his sisters, Elaine (Jim) Hansen, Lois (Bob) Matthews and brother, Dennis (Glenna) Nichols.
