ARLEN CHRISTIAN BLICKFELDT August 5, 1930 - September 28, 2015 Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Arlen C. Blickfeldt, age 85, passed away on September 28, 2015, from complications due to a fall. He was born on August 5, 1930, the oldest child of Christian George and Annie Oleda (Anderson) Blickfeldt. Arlen had three younger siblings: Dolores, Douglas, and Sharen. Arlen was raised in Ogden, Utah, during his childhood years. He attended Weber High School and graduated in 1948. After high school graduation, he attended Weber State University for two years and then volunteered to serve in the United States Navy for four years. During part of his military service, Arlen was employed in the central operations on board the USS Walke Destroyer as a second class Petty Officer in the Sea of Japan during the Korean War. During Arlen's four-year naval service, he corresponded with a pretty, petite red-head named Nina Lorraine Higginson. They met each other through Arlen's mother, Oleda, and Lorraine's half-sister, Flora, who worked together at Hill Field in Ogden. Oleda asked Flora if her sister, Lorraine, would like to write letters to a handsome naval officer, and Lorraine agreed. Soon 21-year old Arlen and 17-year old Lorraine began a long correspondence with each other which lasted throughout Arlen's four-year naval service. When Arlen was on leave from the Navy during those four years, he travelled from San Diego's naval base to Salt Lake City, Utah, to court Lorraine. After his military service, Arlen proposed marriage to Lorraine. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 8, 1955. They were married for 51 years until the time of her passing on October 14, 2006. Following their marriage, Arlen again attended Weber State University and later the University of Washington where he studied electrical engineering which field of study was influenced by Arlen's assignment with central operations on the USS Walke. A year and half after their marriage, Arlen and Lorraine welcomed their first-born son, Michael Carl Blickfeldt into their family. A short eleven months later, they welcomed their second son, Bradey Chris Blickfeldt into their now family of four. When Bradey was a year old, Arlen was offered a job as an electrical engineer with The Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington, where he designed and tested electrical circuit breakers in commercial airplanes. Arlen and Lorraine packed up their two boys and their belongings and left Salt Lake City, Utah, to establish their new home in Kent, Washington, where they lived for the next 30 years until Arlen's retirement from Boeing. After his retirement, they moved to Pleasant View, Utah, where they have lived until their passing. Some of Arlen's hobbies included Ham and CB Radios, making model rockets with his sons and grandchildren, golfing, scuba diving, flying single-engine planes, riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, and boating. Arlen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He was a high priest and served in many callings including home teacher, Elder's Quorum President, Ward and Stake Clerks, and serving on the Stake High Council. Arlen is survived by his son, Michael C. Blickfeldt and his daughter-in-law, Alicia; his son, Bradey C. Blickfeldt and his daughter-in-law, Julianne; six grandchildren including Kevin Blickfeldt, Sean Blickfeldt, Deborah Buckner, Scott Blickfeldt, Stephanie Willmore, and Gregory Blickfeldt. Arlen is also survived by three step-grandchildren including Andrew Snowden, Jillian Schouten, and Tanner Snowden. Additionally, Arlen is survived by three great-grandchildren, Whitney, Lily, and Owen Buckner, and two step-great-grandchildren, Sierra and Jack Schouten. Arlen was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, brother, Doug, and his two sisters, Dolores and Sharen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Pleasant View 1st Ward, 3035 N. 1325 W. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and at the church on Monday prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery with Military Honors.
