Arthur Henry Valdez

ROY -- Arthur H. Valdez died on Friday February 15th of 2008 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.

Arthur was born on April 17th 1938 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to the late Tobias and Gregorita Valdez. He spent his childhood in Antioch, California and graduated from Antioch High School in 1957. Arthur joined the Navy in 1958 and was released with an honorable discharge in 1961. Arthur married Silvia Valdez in 1963 and started a long career with Southern Pacific Railroad in 1966.

Arthur is survived by his son, Arthur Valdez, from Antioch, California; his daughter, Irene Valdez-Soell and son-in-law, Alexander Soell and his grandchildren Jamie, Christopher and Mia from Ashburn, Virginia. He is also survived by his cousins, Estella Colt from Riverdale, Alice Viau from Layton and Dolores Archuleta from Ogden, who cared for Arthur during his illness. Arthur was preceded in death by his daughter, Dina.

Arthur has been an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 23 years. With his positive outlook on life and genuine concern for others, Arthur was able to make a true difference in the life of many people battling addiction.

A memorial mass will be held Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 2740 Pennsylvania Ave. in Ogden. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West with Rosary being said at 7:00 p.m.
