Ogden - Our cherished father and grandfather, Austin Ove Barney, 91, born April 12, 1924, was called home on August 6, 2015. He was born and raised in Ferron, Utah to Lawrence and Ester Beal Barney. He married Wanda Gurr on September 24, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Austin joined the Army in 1943 during WWII and served in Africa and Europe where he was awarded 3 Bronze Stars. He was a prisoner of war in Bad Orb, Germany from 1944 - 1945 and was liberated by Gen. Patton's Army.

He resided in Washington Terrace for over 50 years. He was employed by the City of Washington Terrace, Mountain Fuel and Weber County School District.

He was a faithful and devoted member of the Foothills Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Central States where he met his loving wife and after their Missons they married. He served as a member of the Bishopric, a high councilman and held many various callings. He loved his Heavenly Father and Savior and was valiant to the end.

Austin was a family man; he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed camping, playing games and all family activities.

Austin is survived by his sons, Jim (Betty) Barney, John (Carolyn) Barney and Tim Barney; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Lavon Hansen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Wanda; 7 brothers and sisters, Veda, Marvin, Glen, Melbourn, Vernon, Neal and Ada.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington. Viewings will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, prior to the service from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
