Avery Jones Obituary (1908

Syracuse - Avery Jones, 93, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 with his loving family surrounding him. He was born October 6, 1908 in Burlington, Wyoming, the seventh of twelve children born to Jehu Jones and Emily Herring. On July 30, 1928, he married Rachel Isabelle Newby in Rexburg, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 1, 1960. They were married for 56 years until she passed away on March 10, 1984. On November 12 1986 he married LaVerne Ester Manski. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden Temple on June 17, 1989. In his younger years Avery lived in Sugar City, Idaho where he learned to work hard hoeing sugar beats and working in sugar factories. He learned how to do carpentry work and other odd jobs in the construction trade. He owned and operated a sawmill with his brothers Virgil and Norman in Allens Canyon in Kilgore, Idaho. In 1942 he moved his family to Kingston, Washington where he worked in Bremington Shipyard during World War II. In 1951 he moved his family to Clearfield, Utah. There he worked at Hill Air Force Base as an electrician and retired after 23 years. He was a member of the Syracuse LDS 7th Ward where he was a High Priest. He was a former member of the Clearfield LDS 9th Ward. Avery loved the great outdoors. He loved camping with his family in Island Park, Idaho and fishing the Henry's Fork of the Snake River. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons and these were his favorite times of the year. He especially loved Yellowstone Park and spending time with his family there. After he retired, he enjoyed spending winters in the Arizona and California hunting rocks and riding his mini bike in the desert. Surviving are his wife, LaVerne , Syracuse; four sons and three daughters, Raymond A. (Arrona Jones, Clearfield; Sylvester (Anita) Jones, Sunset; Terry R. (Kathy) Jones, Perry; Brent J. (Karen) Jones, Syracuse; Donna Cowdin, Clearfield; Geraldine Curr, Chester, Idaho; Eleaner Campbell Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. His stepchildren are Arnold Schwamb and Anita Checketts. He has 39 grandchildren 99 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Avery Jones Also surviving are one brother and two sisters; Virgil Jones, Mesa Arizona; Glenna Jack, Penalton, Oregon; Grace Bednarek, St. Minnesota. Avery was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rachel, three brothers and five sisters. Also preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Jim J. Curr and Brooke Jones; and also four son-in-laws; Charles Miller, Clyde Cowdin, Larry Curr and Buddy Campbell. For all those who knew Avery, also knew the world was a better place with him in it and he will be greatly missed. However, we are grateful for his life and the things that he taught us.
