Arwid Harlan Carey Obituary (1920 - 2016)

Clearfield, UT - Arwid H. "Bud" Carey, age 96, died December 11, 2016 following a brief illness at his home surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Carey was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Dorean. He is survived by a half-brother Merlin Carey of Nebraska, four children: M. Wayne Carey of Washington D.C., Dwight E. Carey of Twin Falls, lD, Robert D. Carey of Holladay, UT and Dorinda M. "Dee" Carey of Sunset, UT. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Jennifer Carey Hannun, Boise, lD, Amanda Carey Lee, Boise, lD, Justin Carey, Boise, lD, Amber Carey Madsen, Murray, UT, and Andrew Carey, Rye, NY, and 11 great grandchildren numerous friends, Scouts and little league baseball and basketball players. Bud was born August 30, 1920 in Olivet, SD and was raised in South Dakota, Nebraska and Oregon. He was a veteran of World War ll and the Korean War. He was the eldest of three children of Merle M. Carey and Addie Patterson Carey. As a child, he grew up on the family farms in South Dakota and Nebraska and learned to work on cars from his father, who ran the local mechanic's shop in Mitchell, SD. He served two years with the Army Air Corp as a B-29 mechanic and electrician on Tinian lsland (Northern Marianas) with the 90th Air Service Grp., 99th Sqd., 20th Air Force. He served two years with the Air Force at Fairchild AFB, WA with the 92nd Bomber Wing working on B-29 and B-36 bombers. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the military never left him, as friends and family will attest. Following his military service he moved to Sunset UT and worked at Hill Field AFB, UT, retiring after 38 years in federal service to his country. Bud and his family moved to rural Clearfield in 1955, where he and his wife were active in scouting and little league baseball for more than 25 years. He was active member of the Jaycees, a senior volunteer and driver for Meals on Wheels, and served on the Clearfield Recreation Committee. Bud and his wife were active members in the Clearfield Community Church for over 65 years coaching basketball, softball and volunteer work at UTABA church camp. He and his wife helped build and work in missions in Alaska several times. He was the consummate civic volunteer and will be missed by all that knew him. He enjoyed wood working, camping, snowmobiling, motorcycling, harvest, sports and spending time with his wife and family. His smile and warm heart will be missed by everyone. A special thanks to those people who assisted him during his rich life. A special thanks to the care givers, nannies, Hospice, and others for their unconditional care, love, and understanding. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. at the Clearfield Community Church, 525 E 200 S Clearfield, UT.
