West Haven, Utah

Barry C. Hansen, Sr.
Born December 1, 1962
Passed away October 21, 2026

Barry C. Hansen, Sr., struggled with health conditions in his last few years that led to his passing. He was a bus driver with Utah Transit Authority, eventually becoming the training manager for them. Also, he worked for Swift Transportation as a truck driver, and as dispatch. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. And, he was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. He served in the United States Air Force, and was stationed at Clark Air Base outside of Angeles City, Philippines.

Barry had three children: Laine Marion Hansen, II, Barry Curtis Hansen, Jr., and Timothy Bud Hansen. His parents were Laine Marion Hansen, and Beth Larae Curtis Hansen. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters: Kathern, Allan, Timothy, and Marlaine. Barry was always a very charismatic and fun person to be around when in public with friends, family, and coworkers. He was the kind of guy that would get on stage, tell jokes, sing songs, and hype up the crowd. He loved to be included in various activities where he could express his comedic, and fun style.

Music was something that he enjoyed a lot. I remember driving in the car, and he would have guessing games, to guess who was on the radio. Whenever “We Will Rock You” and “We are the Champions” from Queen were on he would turn the radio up, and we would all sing along with him. On the weekends we would always listen to the disco nights. He really liked the BeeGees disco style. One of his all time favorite musical artists was Buddy Holly. Barry would dress very similar to Buddy Holly.

Barry loved having dogs and cats around. He grew up around multiple pets as a kid, and so we got the experience of raising pets with him, as well. He would love to take them on rides in the car, take them in the pet stores, take them camping, and even went rafting with a couple of our dogs. He made sure that the pets were a great part of the family, and wanted to ensure that we got the experience to learn how to take care of a living being.

Barry always loved his time in the Boy Scouts, and made sure that we got the experience of learning how to survive in the wilderness, as well. He always found great ways to keep us active during the summer time, so that we can earn our merit badges. He was able to successfully help his son Barry Curtis Hansen, Jr. achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He was very proud of his son’s progress in the scouting program. Laine Marion Hansen, II found his love for computers in the scouts when he was able to see the scout master completely disassemble and reassemble a PC.

Timothy Bud Hansen had a great experience earning merit badges with his father, as well. He was always great at pushing Tim to get them completed. One of the badges that Tim worked on with Barry in Young Men’s scouting was the Cycling merit badge. Barry took the time to get things together with the ward in Salt Lake, and Tim and the other scouts rode all the miles for the badge requirements. Barry would be behind Tim, and the scouts the whole time with his hazard lights on making sure they were safe while cycling. Also, when they would do the father and son outings Barry always wanted to take Tim, and others on them so they could explore the outdoors, and know how it is to be in the wilderness. There was a time when Tim had to go on a scouting trip when it was a winter camping trip. Barry was unable to attend but made sure to write a list of things that Tim would need to take with him. Unfortunately, Tim got snow blindness because he forgot his sunglasses.

Barry went through college at the University of Phoenix. He was able to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, then later went back to school to get his Master’s Degree in Business. His schooling led him to be able to move up from being a bus driver at Utah Transit Authority to becoming the Training Manager. Many of his coworkers, and previous trainees talk very highly of him, and loved working with him.

His time in the United States Air Force led him to being able to travel to the Philippines, experience their vast landscape, and learn about the Filipino culture. He always talked a lot about the scenery that he was able to visit there, and loved the different kinds of food they had to offer. One of the dishes that he really liked was bacon fried rice. He taught us a way to make it based upon the flavors that he remembered from when he tried it. Laine Marion Hansen, II, and Barry Curtis Hansen, Jr., were both born in the Philippines, with his first wife. Later, after being discharged from the Air Force they moved to Albuquerque, NM, then eventually American Fork, UT which eventually led to Timothy Bud Hansen being born.

Barry really loved Science Fiction, Monster Movies, and Disney Movies. We always watched a lot of Star Wars, Super Man, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, as well as all of the classic Disney animated movies. He made sure that we got to experience Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, The Lion King, Toy Story, Star Trek, and so much more. He always made sure that we had at least one night every week where the family would gather together, and watch the Disney Family Movie nights on ABC. Throughout the week Star Trek would always be on, and he would always recite the introduction from The Original Series while The Next Generation was starting. Barry loved spending time with his brothers and sisters, whenever possible. When we were all together as a family we would always go out to a restaurant or have a barbeque in the mountains. His family always made sure to include their mother in many of the activities. We would always tell fun stories, and would sit around the TV to watch family movies at the reunions.

Barry will always be remembered for his fun loving personality. He was the life of the party, and wherever you go where he had an impact people always have something great to tell about him. We all love you and miss you very much, and may your memory of the good times always live on forever!
