Barry Hudgens

–

Farr West, Utah

Barry Wynn Hudgens, 75, of Farr West, Utah passed away at his home on April 2, 2023 after a sudden illness surrounded by his family.
Barry was born on August 28, 1947 to Winton Ray Hudgens and Janis Blodgett Hudgens in Ogden, Utah. Barry grew up in North Ogden with two brothers and two sisters, milking cows, riding horses, helping Grandpa Blodgett on the farm and in the garden, and playing with cousins and neighborhood friends. As he got a little older, he would spend his summers helping to herd sheep on a ranch in Wyoming. After graduating from Weber High School, Barry enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served in Thailand during the Vietnam war. He was trained in aircraft sheet metal repair. He would later utilize this training and skill while serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Coral Sea. Ultimately this background became the foundation for his career with the Boeing Company in Seattle where he worked for over 20 years in various manufacturing and leadership positions. After retiring from Boeing, he moved to Afton, Wyoming and started a successful trucking company that took him all across the country. In his most recent years, he worked for PTI where he would shuttle train engine crews to the trains in the Ogden yard and surrounding areas. He really enjoyed the work and especially the comradery and friendship of the people he transported.
He loved to fish for trout in the rivers and hunt on his horses. Deer and elk hunts were his favorites, and he would spend the whole year preparing for the fall hunts. He loved to spend time riding in the mountains of Wyoming.
Barry married Nancy Ekstrom in 1972, and helped raise Nancy's boys, Kip and Kim. They were later divorced.
Education was important to Barry. He encouraged his nieces and nephews to pursue their educations and bought many of them laptop computers as high school graduation gifts. He also paid for their college books. Barry was known for his huge "Bear Hugs" to his nieces and nephews.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Winton and Janis Hudgens, and his brother, Steven Hudgens. He is survived by his siblings, Christine Midget (Larry) of Farr West, UT, Lynn Hudgens (Melica) of Heber City, UT, and Janna Sadler (Rodway) of Ivins, UT. Barry leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, and many close friends.
A luncheon will be held on April 15th at 1 pm at the Farr West Senior Center, 1895 No. 1800 W, Farr West, UT for family and friends.
