Bernice Verna Catmull Goeckeritz

Farmington, UT

Bernice Verna (Catmull) Goeckeritz joined her dear husband of 53 years, Erich, in the early morning hours of January 29th, 2007. It had been 18 years to the day since they had been separated by death. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho in October of 1915 to Henry and Grace Catmull. She was one of six children.
She may have remained an Idaho girl if she had not met, through a letter, a young man from New York City. Letters turned to love and in 1936 she was swept off her feet and out of Idaho to live in the Big Apple. She would always after that, consider herself a New Yorker at heart. After five years, and with one child in tow, they returned west to settle in Clearfield, Utah. There they lived and raised five children.
Bernice worked as a cook in the Davis county school system, but her true occupation was that of a mother and wife. She served faithfully in the LDS church in various capacities in the Relief Society, Sunday School, MIA and Primary. She had a gift for the dramatic and enjoyed participating in theatrical productions. She nurtured many in the footlights as a Drama Director. She led a joyful life, baking pies, growing gardens, and sharing laughter. Anyone who spent time with her came away with a smile. Her family feels blessed to have known the happy sound of her voice and the gentle love of her heart. Her unique qualities have made her irreplaceable in our hearts and we will cherish her forever.
In addition to her husband, Erich, she was preceded in death by her cherished daughter Gerhardt. We know she is celebrating a long awaited reunion with them. Surviving her are her children Merlin (Karen) Goeckeritz, Dorsey (Blair) Ford, Suzanne (Jeff) Newey and Zock (Jeannine) Goeckeritz. It was hard for her to leave behind 28 grandchildren and 39 (and counting) great grandchildren because she loved each one dearly.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton. Funeral services will be held in the same location on the following day, Saturday, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at Layton Memorial Park.
