Betty Burn Obituary (1938 - 2023)

Rosalie Betty Burns, or as friends and family affectionately referred to her as "Betty", (we just called her "mom") passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, on Wednesday January 4th, 2023, at 3:53pm, at her home, in Clinton Utah, at the age of 84 Mom was born on May 24, 1938, in Santa Ana, California, the eldest child of Timothy and Susan Casey. Betty attended St. Anthony's Catholic School from kindergarten through 12th grade. It was during this time that she met and married her high school sweetheart, Oscar Mendoza. They were married on May 24, 1958, and through this union they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Mendoza and Anna Marie Mendoza. They were later divorced, but remained friends. While working at Mattel Inc. in 1968, she met and later married Terrance Joseph O'Toole on March 3, 1972. Their family continued to grow, as Terry had 3 sons from a previous marriage and together, they welcomed one daughter, Theresa Rene O'Toole. The family lived many years throughout Southern California and even relocated to Farley, Iowa for a short time. Terry proceeded her in death on February 14, 1987. Mom later met Edward Allen Burns and after relocating to Layton, Utah to be closer to her children. She and Ed were married on April 11, 1996, in Elko, Nevada. They went on to renew their vows on July 20, 2003, at St. James Catholic Church, in Ogden, Utah. During their marriage they enjoyed time with family, camping, riding ATVs, fishing, and even renovating homes together until Ed's passing in November 16, 2012. Mom worked various jobs throughout her life, she was an assembly line toy maker at Mattel's Inc, she was a cocktail waitress, and a housekeeper, just to name a few. With these various jobs, came many titles, but her proudest title was Mom and Grandma. Mom worked hard to make sure her family was taken care of. Often going without for herself to ensure her children didn't have to. As time went on and life slowed down, she could often be found tuning in to the newest true crime series or catching up on Days of Our Lives. She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and always looked forward to the annual "Lava Hot Springs Girls Trip" with her daughters and granddaughters. Although, mom is not with us in body anymore, she will always be with us in spirit. We grieve because we miss her, but we rejoice in knowing she is no longer in pain and is once again made whole and we look forward to the day we are all reunited in Heaven. Rest in Peace Mom, we love you. Betty is survived by her daughters: Anna (Eugene) Constante-Torres, Theresa (Brian) Jelsma; son: Donald (Ginny) O'Toole; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brother, Frank Parra. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Alex Parra, daughter Cathy Gonzalez, son Patrick O'Toole, and grandsons, Andrew Torres and Ryan Gonzalez. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 3 pm at the Roy Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W., with a viewing prior from 1-2:30 pm.
