Betty Jane Claypool Moyes

PLAIN CITYa"Betty Moyes, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, age 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 21, 2002, in Ogden, Utah. Betty was born in Grover, Colorado on August 25, 1920, a daughter of John and Gladys Claypool. She was the eldest of five children.

She moved with her family to Ogden, Utah when she was 15 years of age. She was reared and educated in Ogden. It is there that she met the love of her life, Carl J. Moyes, while both were attending the LDS Business College. Betty and Carl were married in Ogden, Utah on August 13, 1941. They were blessed with three children, Jerry, Ronald and Patrice. Carl passed away on July 11, 1985.

She, together with her husband and children, began in the trucking industry with only two trucks. Their hard work, along with the work of their children has since evolved from one small company into what is now Swift Transportation.

She was a faithful member of the LDS Church. She was also very active in the Beta Sigma Phi and a volunteer for the Florence Crittendon Society in Phoenix, Arizona.

She is survived by her children, Patrice (Jeff) Archibald of Layton, Jerry (Vickie) Moyes of Glendale, Arizona, Ronald (Krista) Moyes of Phoenix, Arizona, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Mary Ford of Roy, Audrey Veraldi of Ogden, Sally Taylor of Burley, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson Justin and a great-grandson Dustyn, and her brother, Eugene.
