SOUTH OGDEN - Betty Jean Heilesen Washburn died peacefully at home on October 7th 2011, of natural causes surrounded by many of her family and friends.

Betty was born on November 17, 1923 in Glenwood Utah to Henry Edward and Eva Catherine Tuttle Heilesen. She was raised in Glenwood and attended Sevier County schools graduating from Richfield High School. After high school she moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. After one quarter of school she returned home to Glenwood to care for her sister La Preal and help her father in the Glenwood Mercantile. At some point during WWII she returned to Salt Lake City where she worked at Remington Arms in support of the war effort.

Betty met the love of her life and future husband Billie Washburn while in high school. They renewed their acquaintance in 1944 and were married in Pensacola Florida on February 12, 1945. Mom often told us that the only person she knew at her wedding ceremony was her husband to be. Bill and Betty had four children: Bill Henry (Santa Rosa California), Natalie (Jim Stewart) who died of complications from Diabetes in 1984, Jeff (Draper UT) and Wendy (Scott Smalley AAA 1/2 Mountain Green UT).

Mom and Dad owned and operated Washburn Pharmacy in North Ogden and were active in a wide variety of endeavors including, square dancing, golfing and church and community activities which they dearly loved. On June 21, 1962 Bill and Betty were sealed for Time and all Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Betty was incredibly dedicated to her family and friends and is remembered by all for her compassion, caring and loyalty. Betty was a faithful member of the LDS church and was active in it her entire life. She served in many capacities including stake missionary and ward relief society president. The restored gospel was part and parcel of her being and she loved the gospel with all her heart. Her greatest joy in life was her family and they in turn loved and cherished her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the South Ogden 6th Ward Chapel, 4380 Orchard Ave., South Ogden, Utah.
