Billie Joyce Schmitz, a quiet force with a heart of gold and a quick smile was invited to one last dance party--this one in heaven. Born on August 17, 1934, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Billie was well-known for her compassionate spirit, courageous heart, humble nature, and thoughtful demeanor. She left a trail of kindness wherever she went. After 48 years of spreading sunshine in North Ogden, Utah, Billie bid her family, and friends farewell on November 5, 2024.
Billie's love for helping others was reflected in her professional life. She graduated with a BSN from the University of Wisconsin--Madison. During her early career she worked in Corvallis. Oregon as a public health nurse and was known for her compassion. She retired from her position as the RN office manager for Ogden's Medical Hearing Clinic in 1987, where she was respected and loved by patients and office staff alike.
Billie actively practiced living in a way that reflected her deep faith and commitment to Christ. People who were lucky enough to cross paths with her met a woman who embodied Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you". She attended Community United Methodist Church for over 40 years, actively participating in adult Sunday School, weekly Bible Study, and taking delight in the melodies of the handbell choir. She was a voracious reader, Sudoku wizard, green-thumbed gardener, animal lover, and for many years an active volunteer at her church and Utah's Hogle Zoo.
Billie's love for Christmas carols and Hallmark Christmas movies was only rivaled by her love for God, her family, and her friends. She was committed to helping others suffering from Multiple Myeloma, and championed her primary Hematologist's research by participating in every Myeloma research study for which she was eligible. She spread kindness and light to every member of her healthcare and home care teams, even on the tough days--cracking jokes and sharing the achievements and activities of her beloved daughters and grandsons. Her smile was a beacon that lit up every room, and her kindness was a treasure cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Christine and Karen Schmitz; grandsons Jake, Jonah (Heather), Charlie, Elijah Mendys, Jordan (Melanie) and granddaughter Alison, brother James Frank; and nephews Bruce (Kim), Brian (Kathy) and Russell (Donna) Frank. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mabel Frank.
