Billy (Bill) Brian Meeks 03/04/1945 - 03/26/2015 Bill was born in Sacramento California to loving parents. His father was an educator and loved to teach and help children learn and grow in the subject of English. Bill enjoyed the ocean and loved to surf as a child. He also loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed art and had excelled at pottery. He taught pottery at various colleges in California and enjoyed making beautiful art with his hands. After teaching for several years he took to the road and lived and worked in several states. He moved to Idaho where he continued his love for nature and was a guide on the Salmon River for several seasons. Eventually he settled down in Island Park, Idaho and met Karen Cottrell who had relocated to that area from South Ogden. They dated and were married on April 20th 1980. Shortly after they married, they moved to South Ogden Utah to be close to family and friends. In 1996 Bill and Karen purchased June's Blossom Shop from June Bowman and continued the legacy of that quality floral business. Bill was involved in many aspects of the floral business but always enjoyed the reception he received as he delivered flowers and how it would brighten up the recipient's day. After 12 years the floral business was closed due to the economy and the drastic change in the floral industry. Bill was known for his humor and was always joking with people and "pulling someone's leg". He was a story teller and he loved to embellish on life's experiences. He was a kind man and was known for not ever being angry or wanting a confrontation. He had no religious affiliation but lived a Christ-like life in how he treated people. For this, especially, he will be missed. The last ten years have been trying on Bill as he has had to deal with cancer and the struggles that come with it. After weeks of treatment he learned it was in remission and eventually was cleared by the doctor as being cured. In late October 2014 he learned that cancer was back in his life and he didn't hesitate to figure out what he needed to do to fight back and win. Bill and Karen started the process of going to the Huntsman Cancer Institute to learn of his options. Eventually he started treatments at McKay Dee Hospital and endured both radiation and chemotherapy for several weeks. On March 4th 2015 (his birthday) he was advised by his doctor to check in at the Hospital as the chemotherapy had made him week and he needed help in recovering from these treatments. Up until then he endured at home with his family. Shortly after entering McKay Dee Hospital he contracted the MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) infection. He struggled for several days and it eventually consumed him and took his life. He commented just three days before his death: "Why can't I just get back to dealing with my cancer?" Bill is survived by his loving wife and companion Karen Cottrell Meeks, his two sons (stepsons) Troy Woody (Heather Mitchell Woody) and Quinn Woody (Emily Palmer Woody) and seven grandchildren (Kirsten Woody Brown, Parker Woody, Ethan Woody, Elise Woody (children of Quinn and Emily) and Bryce Woody, Zackary Woody, Caleb Woody (children of Troy and Heather). Bill's oldest grandchild Kirsten called him Papa Bill as a baby and it stuck with all the grandchildren. They all love him and will greatly miss their Papa!
