Bobby J. Brunty

BRIGHAM CITY - BJ Brunty passed away January 5, 2015. He was born February 15, 1931 in Poplar Bluff Missouri, the son of Beulah and Delbert Brunty. He married Mary Sue Chastain in 1953 and they raised their sons, Kim and Troy, in Concord California.
Because BJ was born into humble circumstances he always strove to work hard, improve himself and provide for his family. After serving in the United States Navy and while being a family-man he put himself through college and earned a degree from Contra Costa College in California. This allowed him to work as a professional and to provide the stable life for his wife and boys that he never had growing up.
When work was done he supported his family in play by being the guy who stepped up and volunteered to coach Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams and who went to every high school football, basketball and baseball game, regardless of time, location or weather. He created great memories by taking his family camping, going to Death Valley (more fun than it sounds) and by going to Disneyland (more fun than it sounds).
Later in life BJ became "Papa" to Kim's boys, Owen and Michael and to Troy's children, Joe, Jillian, Ben and Emily. The presence of even one of his grandchildren would bring a smile to his face and he would beam with pride. Later, when Joe married Larissa, she joined the ranks of his favorite people and became his 3rd granddaughter.
Since his girl, Mary Sue, passed away in October of 2011, he has been pretty lonely. Loving service has been extended to BJ since then and it has taken many forms. There have been Kim and his wife Jean taking him into their home in Bellevue WA., there has been Jacqui and so many others at Maple Springs retirement home, there have been rides lovingly provided to each of his doctor appointments and a very special thank you to Doug and Marlene Wyatt for treating him like he was their own.
He is survived by two brothers, Walt (Baker, La.) and Jim (Las Vegas, NV.), two sons and seven grandchildren. He took great pride and joy in his association with the Knights of Columbus.
BJ was preceded in death by his mom and dad and two sisters, Ruth and Betty. He did good works, he loved his family and friends fiercely, his example will be remembered and he will be missed.
Services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 380 S. 200 E., Brigham City, UT.
Friends may call on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:40 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City. Interment will be in Brigham City Cemetery.
