With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brad C. Smith, on July 26, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. Born to Bryce and Marian Smith on March 4, 1966, in Salt Lake City, UT, Brad was a compass guiding us with his unwavering courage, resilience, and loyalty. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have known him.
Brad was a man of honor and ambition; his life a testament to his tenacity and drive. He graduated from the University of Utah School of Law. He distinguished himself as a practicing attorney at Stevenson, Smith, Hood, Knudson and served as a Deputy County Prosecutor for Box Elder County. His commitment to community and education led him to serve as the Ogden City School District Superintendent and later, the Superintendent of Education for the State of Utah. He was heavily involved with the Partnership for Leaders in Education program at University of Virginia Darden Business school and received many accolades from UFA. These achievements, however significant, only scratched the surface of Brad's impact and the love he had for his community.
Faith was the cornerstone of Brad's life, reflected in his devotion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His unwavering spiritual dedication was reflected in his roles as an inspiring Gospel Doctrine Teacher, an exceptional Scout Master, and a devoted member of the High Council and Taylor Canyon Ward bishopric, with his greatest passion found in teaching and scouting. One of his favorite scriptures is "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth." Romans 1:16. Brad truly embodied this verse with his example of enduring faith and service.
Brad's most cherished treasures were his wife, Debbie, and their children, Amy (Chris), Bryce (Amanda), Matthew (Emily) and a bonus daughter, Stephanie (Sam), and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Caroline, and Charlie, sister Rose (Mont) Hales, brother Stan (Nancy) Smith, and sister-in-law Sherryl Smith. He is preceded in death by his brother Mark Smith. He enjoyed camping, hunting, boating, four-wheeling, cooking, and reading. He loved to share his hobbies with others, especially food and fire. Many will remember the lively discussions and lessons he taught around the campfire. His legacy is not only in his professional and religious accomplishments but also in the strong values he instilled in his family and others.
