Brian Cutlip

–

Ogden, Utah

Brian Robert Cutlip set off on his greatest adventure on December 10, 2023, leaving behind a trail of love, laughter, and life-long memories. Born on May 28, 1957, in Ogden, UT, Brian spent 66 years making the world a better place, one brick at a time.
Brian's life was anything but ordinary. A true Ogdenite, he grew up on his family's farm, where he developed his adventurous spirit. After graduating from Ben Lomond High School, his career in construction took him to places like Sun Valley, ID; San Francisco, CA; and Juarez MX where he left his mark. Closer to home his art is cemented in numerous buildings such as Layton High School and Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind. His most beautiful work can be found in his home. Later in his career he worked as a Superintendent with Western Refractory Construction Inc. at Kennecott Copper. Brian retired in 2016, after a fulfilling career, but his love for his trade never waned.
Outside of work, Brian was a passionate, fun-loving soul. He felt like he was in paradise while mountain biking down a rugged trail or even peddling around town. He loved camping under the stars, fishing, and hunting. When the snow came you could find him shredding down triple diamond runs or enjoying nature's beauty at a slower pace as he cross-country skied all over the Rockies. Any excuse to be in the mountains and he was all over it.
Later in life, Brian discovered the beauty in the tropical paradise of the Bahamas. As Brian discovered the underwater world of the Caribbean, he said he could stay forever, even explaining how he would live happily on a deserted island. He absolutely loved the ocean and the sound of the waves.
Music was Brian's love language and reading nurtured his soul. He could often be found rockin' out to his favorite songs or engrossed in a book, especially if it was authored by Clive Cussler.
Brian's love for practical jokes kept everyone on their toes, and his inherent love for children and animals warmed everyone's hearts. Brian and Cindy's home was welcoming to countless people, young and old, but above all else, Brian's most cherished treasure was his family. He was happily married to the love of his life, Cindy, for 46 years. Their love for each other knew no bounds. Brian and Cindy married in Jackson Hole Wyoming on August 9, 1977, renewing their vows 34 years later aboard The Maid of the Mist at the base of Niagara Falls on October 23, 2011.
Brian will always be remembered and cherished by those who love him, his wife Cindy, his children Dustin (Wendy) Cutlip, Angela (Brandon) Jones, Hailey (Tylor) Grier, and Dalan (Ayani) Cutlip, also his brother Max (Debbie) Cutlip, and sister Mechille (Ron-Deceased) Ford, along with 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his trusty pup Mork, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Max Cutlip and Dorothy June (Jack-Deceased) Schmidt, his brothers Paul, Mark, Brent, and his sister Pamala, half-brother David, half-sister Charlene, and best friend Kenny Hoaglin.
Brian's memorial service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2:00 pm MST at Myers Mortuary, 845 S. Washington Blvd. Ogden, Utah. Following the Celebration of his life, his wife Cindy will welcome those who love him to their home to share in his memory. Cindy requests anyone who plays a musical instrument to bring it, and children are absolutely welcome. In Brian's memory we encourage everyone to wear their favorite rock-and-roll t-shirt and share their favorite stories, photos, and memories. This can also be done on his memorial page.
Let us remember him as he was - adventurous, compassionate, funny, loyal, and loving. After all, the beauty of Brian's life isn't just in its length, but in the beauty he saw in every sunset, starry sky, ocean wave, and child's smile.
