On May 7, 2017, our family patriarch left his loving family circle to be reunited with his eternal companion and a host of departed family and friends.
Brian Lake Taylor was born on January 7, 1921 to Riley Edmund and Jane Elizabeth Kinghorn Taylor in Farr West, Weber County, Utah. He had resided nearly all his life on the same farm where he was born. He attended Weber County schools, Weber College, and Utah State University where at graduation in 1946, he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, National Honor Fraternity.
He served an LDS mission to the New England States, then later served with his wife in the Oregon Portland Mission.
On December 8, 1949, he married Jean Elnora Aldous in the Idaho Falls Temple. He claimed that this was the most important decision in his life, for together they were able to build an eternal family unit, their pride and joy. This included Anita (Kaly) Fadel, Sherri (Jim) Cassity, Coral (Dennis) Hadley, Karma (Loren) Lattin, David (Pat) Taylor, Blaine (Julie) Taylor, and Julie (Ty) Hipwell, 28 grandchildren, and 55 great-grandchildren. His greatest happiness was derived from frequent gatherings with his family and friends.
He gave 33 years of quality service at DDO, Ogden Arsenal, and Hill AFB, where he worked as a computer specialist, and where he earned a number of awards for outstanding service.
He had a full life of joyful service in the LDS Faith where he held a variety of positions, including Bishop, High Counselor, Stake Executive Secretary, and Stake Coordinator for the Spanish and Italian Name Extraction. His most loved assignment was home teacher, where he always gave his best.
His musical activities gave him deep satisfaction. He served 45 years as Stake priesthood organist and 15 years as organist in the Ogden Temple. He arranged piano-organ duets to be played by family members. He likewise arranged some barbershop music for Three Dads and a Grandpa quartet. He sang in a ward choir most of his life.
He took an active part in community affairs where he was elected a member of the first Farr West town committee in 1962 and served as chairman of that council in 1974. Upon incorporation of Farr West City in 1981, he was appointed Justice Court Judge where he served until 1994. He was honored as Citizen of the Year in 1985 and twice was honored as Grand Marshal for the Farr West Freedom Festival Parade.
He had been a merit badge counselor in the Boy Scouts where he also served as SME finance chairman in the Weber View District in 1978-81.
In 1997, he was called to serve as Associate Director of Ogden Regional Family History Center where he served nine years. Family history activities occupied his time for several decades. His biographical works have been shared internationally with many relatives. He wrote a history of Farr West in 1980 and more recently compiled biographies of 93 Farr West families. He was a member of the Modern Mormon Battalion and Sons of the American Revolution.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Lola, Zesta, and Nolan; infant daughter; two great-grandchildren.
