Burnett Junior Smith

–

Perry, UT

PERRY - Burnett J. "Burt" Smith returned home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. He was born June 26, 1928 in Upalco, Utah, the son of Alton Burnett Smith and Winifred Mitchell Smith. He married Rosa May Christensen on January 15, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple, and celebrated their 60th Wedding anniversary earlier this year. They have 9 children, 27 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Burnett Smith lived a long and full life. His family moved to Oregon when he was about 10 years old. Burnett worked on the family farm in his teens. He then served in the United States Army from October 1946 to January 1948, taking part in the occupation forces in Japan after the end of World War II. Following his armed service, he served an LDS Mission to South Africa, then traveled through Europe before returning home to Nyssa, Oregon, where he met and married Rosa May. They lived in Ontario, Oregon; Rupert, Idaho; and Granger, Utah; before moving to Perry, Utah, where they've lived since 1960.
Burnett worked as a floor covering installer for years, first for private businesses and then at the Intermountain Indian School. He then studied locksmithing and began working for the school as a locksmith before opening his own locksmith shop.
Burnett served as an LDS Scoutmaster for many years, and was awarded the Silver Beaver award. He served many callings in the LDS Church in addition to holding the position of Priesthood Chorister for 50 years. He served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for 20 years, a calling he enjoyed very much.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa May, his sisters: DeLone (Irvin) Durfee, Lola (Richard) Orchard and Eva Aston, and his children: Robert (Margaret), David (Connie), Elaine (Ron) Jones, Becky, Susan, Judy (K.C.) Norseth, Eric (Shari), Colleen, his daughter-in-law, DiAnna, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, his parents, his brother Charles Alfred, and his sister and brother-in-law, Luella and Wren Tracy.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
