Byron Muntz Oberg, Sr Obituary (2020)

Byron Muntz Oberg Sr., 93 died peacefully in Kaysville, Utah. He was born on December 9, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Clarence Nels and Rhea Muntz Oberg. He attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1944. He earned his Associates Degree from Weber College in 1952, he continued his studies at University of Utah receiving his BS degree in Political Science in 1954 and his double Masters in Political Science and Public Administration in 1956. Byron served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He was awarded the Pacific War Zone Bar and the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar. He was stationed at various ports throughout the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, Gulf of Thailand, South and East China Seas with time spent in the Cities of Kolkata, India, Singapore, Southern Malaysia, Shanghai, China, Manila, Philippines, Okinawa, Aoshima, Japan and Hawaii. He was Honorably Discharged October 1946. Byron began his career serving as the City Manager of Monticello, Utah, followed by the Bureau of Reclamation in Salt Lake City, Utah, Region 4 Zoning Administration for Paige, Arizona, City Manager of Bountiful, Utah and then at Hill Air Force Base where he retired with 34 years of Federal and Military service. He served as the President of the Utah City Managers from 1962-1964. He was a lifelong Democrat and served as a delegate during the early 90's. Byron married Evelyn Robbins on April 4, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on July 8, 1965; they were married 62 wonderful loving years. He married Anne Bingham on May 15, 2009, they enjoyed each other's companionship and trips to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Las Vegas, Nevada. Byron also enjoyed skiing and golfing; and was an avid Utah Jazz, Running Utes and Weber State Wildcat fan. GO UTES! He is survived by his wife, Anne; daughter, Patricia (Dean) Udall; son, Byron, Jr. (Shelly) Oberg; stepdaughter, Amber Lynne (Patrick) Rasband; his six grandchildren, Amy (Tony) Chapman (45), Paul (Alison) Udall (40), Lyndsey Udall (35), Brent (Jordon) Palmer (39), Kenny (Jacki) Palmer III, (34), Katherine Thompson (24); and his seven great-grandchildren, Noelle Chapman (16), Ava Chapman (14), Jaxson Udall (11), Owen Udall (9), Sawyer Udall (5), Kenny Palmer IV, (4) and Logan Palmer (1). He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Rebecca Ann Palmer; parents and his brothers, Haynes and Edward. Byron was a kindhearted man, highly intelligent and loved by his family. We will miss you until we meet again. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Drive, Kaysville, Utah.
