Calvin Warren Cottrell

NORTH OGDEN/ST. GEORGE - Calvin W. Cottrell 67, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003, while doing one of the activities he had a passion for umpiring softball. If he had a choice, it would be the golf course or the ball diamond. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and best friend will be sorely missed.

He was born July 1, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Elmer and Bertha Cottrell. He married his high school sweetheart, LaVern Shaw, June 28, 1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He served an LDS mission in the Great Lakes Mission. He enjoyed serving and being active in church callings. They established their home in North Ogden, where their four children were raised.

He worked as a Contracts Manager at Hill Air Force Base and retired in 1993. He could never bring himself to retire from his job as a ref and an umpire of almost every sport for over 45 years.

He loved to be golfing, camping, and four wheeling with friends and family. He enjoyed his dear friends in a dinner group for over 38 years and his Easter camping group for 30 years.

They bought a home 5 years ago in St. George at Sun River, which he referred to as his beautiful paradise!

He is survived by his wife of 49 years: LaVern; sons: Curtis (Brenda) Cottrell (West Point); Dale (Jenny) Cottrell (Garland); Scott (Lenay) Cottrell (Tooele); daughter: Sheila (Mike) Sorensen (West Jordan) and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Tyson R. Cottrell; parents: Elmer and Bertha Cottrell; and parents-in-law: Wilford & Lucille Shaw.
