Cammon Irby Arrington
July 6, 1939 - May 31, 2017
Cammon Irby Arrington returned to his Heavenly Father the night of May 31, 2017, after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was the second of five children born to Irby N. and Faith Louise Jeter Arrington.
He attended Salt Lake City schools and graduated from South High School in 1957. Following high school, he joined the Coast Guard Reserves and then served as a missionary under President Thomas S. Monson in the Eastern Canadian Mission. After the mission he attended Brigham Young University and received a B.S. degree in Business Administration and an M.A. degree in Communications.
While attending BYU, he worked at Clark's Clothing Store in Provo where he met his eternal companion, Jan Wolthuis, who came in to buy a pair of shoes. Cam and Jan were married in the Salt Lake Temple, with President Thomas S. Monson officiating. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August.
Following college, he worked in various administrative positions in higher education and industry. He retired as a hospital administrator at the University Medical Center.
Cam spent his adult life serving the Lord, and he was a stalwart and faithful servant. He held many Church positions, including Bishop, Stake President, Mission President of the California Santa Rosa Mission and temple worker. While Bishop of the Farmington First Ward he worked closely with Elder Gordon B. Hinckley during the 1983 mudslide to ensure that all affected by the mudslide received care and assistance.
He loved the Lord and bore frequent and fervent testimony of Him, the last time on May 6, 2017. Although his speaking ability had greatly reduced over the last few years, he bore a clear and strong testimony of the Savior. He loved missionary work, and he loved the missionaries. He was a dedicated, involved, and loving father, setting standards of righteousness and service for his children.
Cam is survived by his wife, Jan, and his five children: Cammon Arrington (Tilese), Lauri Pendleton (Mitch), Brandon Arrington (Emily), Blythe Peel (David), Ryan Arrington, plus nineteen precious grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Burt Arrington and Jeff Arrington, and a sister, Ann Massey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irby and Faith Arrington, and a sister, Jane Hines.
His family thanks Dr. Jeff Lish and the members of the Mantua Second Ward for their help and care.
