Carlyle Nelson Stott Obituary (1937 - 2014)

ROY - Our beloved Father, Nelson C Stott (Carlyle), age 77, passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2014 at Peach Tree Assisted Living with his entrusted nurse and beloved friends nearby. We will be forever indebted to them for their tireless and loving care. Carlyle was born April 13, 1937 in Meadow, UT to Loa Stewart Stott and Nelson Stott. Nelson graduated from Milford High School where he was an avid student, and an amazing trumpet player. He also played on Milford's football, basketball and track teams. He spent his youth with lifelong friends Harlan Anderson, Rulon, Denis and Lorraine Hardy and David Griffiths, who later became his brother-in-law and passed away 6 months prior to Carlyle. He also enjoyed a lifelong friendship and great times with another brother-in-law, Mike Walker. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Walker Yero and had five children. That marriage later ended in divorce. Nelson was a brilliant man and went on to graduate from Utah State University in 1959. He began his career at Morton Thiokol and throughout his 33 years there, his talents involved him in important work in the Minuteman and Trident missile programs NASA, and later in the space shuttle motor program. Carlyle witnessed the amazing growth of the computer and defense industries and was very proud of his work and achievements. When he wasn't working, he was roaming the mountains in Logan, and the hills and canyons surrounding Milford, UT. He enjoyed military and firearm history and was an avid gun collector. He collected every thing a sportsman would ever want or need. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with his many children, grandchildren and nephews. He also had a great love for astronomy. He shared his love of the stars with his children. We spent countless nights under the canopy gazing at planets through his high-powered telescope. He dearly loved his family and friends. Nelson is survived by his five children, Tami (Duke) Atwood, Stephanie (Tadd) Lowe, Phillip (Altina) Stott, Heidi (Hal) Peck, and Karen Robinson. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Orlynn Gray of Milford, sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, along with many cousins and nephews. Nelson was proceeded in death by his mother, Loa Stott, father Nelson Stott , baby brother, Ephraim Phillip Stott and brother in law, Maurice Gray. At Nelson's request, he will be cremated and his ashes scattered at his most favorite spot on earth, Rock Corral near Milford, UT. Arrangements under the direction of Myers Roy Mortuary.
