Carolee Walker Oaks Obituary (1936 - 2020)

Reunited with her beloved Tom on January 28, 2020, at the age of 84 after gracefully living with Alzheimer's disease. Carolee was born in Ft Union, Utah on January 15, 1936 to Royal and Lyle Walker. She was fouth of seven children. She was raised to work hard and play hard with her many siblings and cousins. She was equipped with a bright mind and competitive nature which she used to become a leader of her peers. She ran for and won the office of Student Body Vice President (because that was the highest office a girl could hold at that time). Quickly following her Graduation from Jordan High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Oaks, in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. Forming a foundation that enriched the lives of the family that they eventually created together. They went on to have 5 daughters who brought much joy to their lives. Carolee and Tom continued on through life together. Embarking on many adventures, sometimes with Carolee kicking and screaming as Tom always encouraged her a little out of her comfort zone. But she always went along with him and along the way found ways to share her talents and her time. Reaffirming her selfless nature as she served others. Those in her family, her friends, those whom she had stewardship over through the many callings that she fulfilled throughout her entire life. She especially loved the time she served as a Full time Missionary with her husband in Nauvoo. In her own words she said: "I feel like while serving on my mission, I was able to use every talent I have ever been given". She taught the restored gospel to visitors at sites, she performed in all of the productions, and sewed costumes for all of the missionaries. We all watched her blossom like never before. Carolee loved being a Mom and she was good at it. But, her most favorite role was that of Grandma or G-Ma as she was lovingly called. Her grandkids and greatgrands were her pride and joy. Her loving care strengthened testimonies and built faith. Her unconditional love "saved the lives" of more than a couple of her feisty grandkids. She helped develop creativity in all mediums. She was also the biggest fan and loudest cheerleader at any sporting event of her grandkids. Ask any of them and they will tell you that Gma was fun! She encouraged fun and loved to be silly. From Fast Fooding to nerf wars to funny face contests to epic bunko parties. She was Fun. She was always willing to listen and gave great advice. She taught the importance of family. She loved her Grandkids and they loved her. Carolee was a very good friend and taught her family the importance of good friends. Carolee and Tom collected a massive amount of friends everywhere they went. Friends they sang with, camped with, travelled with, served with. This path led them to find the Chamberlin Family who became more like family to them. The four adults and ten little girls became the Two Family Singers, travelling all over performing together. Creating precious memories that are cherished to this day. People loved Carolee it has been said that parties never started until she got there. Even in the end of her beautiful life she became a favorite of those who so lovingly cared for her. Her family was astounded of constant stream of caretakers who came to say goodbye and tell her they loved her. Carolee's family would like to thank the caretakers at Fairfield Village for the incredible love they showed to their mother. They helped close her earthly life with dignity and grace. Carolee is survived by her five best friends and daughters, Keri Gunn (Craig), Barbara Lindsey (Matt), Sydnie Howard (Troy), Allyson Steffensen (David) and Amy Stevens (Craig). Her many grandchildren and their spouses and all of their children, the greatgrands; her sister, Myrna Walker McPherson (Irwin); her baby brother; Terry Walker(Cynthia) and sisters in law, Penny Walker and Elva Oaks Green. Preceded in death by her best friend and eternal companion, Tommy Wilfred Oaks; her parents, Royal and Lyle Walker; her sisters, Janene Walker, Maxine Smith(Vance), and Connie Thomas (Richard); her brother, Royal Kent Walker. Also, her grandson, Duncan Oaks Howard. With which we know there must have been a joyous reunion.
