Carolyn Sue Garner

–

Layton, Utah

Carolyn Sue Garner, 83, of Layton Utah, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Leaving behind a lifetime of laughs, cherished memories, and just the right amount of sass.

Mom was born June 20, 1943 in Bradfordsville, Kentucky, to Charles and Ailene Bright Roberts. Mom was a Kentucky girl with a big personality and a heart to match.
Mom shared 51 years of marriage to her loving husband, Lonnie Garner. Together they built a life filled with family, lots of love, adventures, and memories that will be treasured forever. Mom was a proud homemaker. Everyone who knew her knew she ran a tight ship! Mom‘s house was spotless, cleaned every day and dinner was on the table at six on the dot. Christmas was Mom’s absolute favorite holiday and she made sure everyone knew it. Her kitchen was filled with all kinds of goodies, candies, cookies, and bread. If ever you helped her make fudge, there’s a 99% chance that you were gonna get yelled at. “That the fudge is going to set!” and “hurry and stir!” She enjoyed making holidays special. Creating traditions and memories her family will carry on in her memory.

Mom loved camping. Her and Dad would spend winters in Overton, Nevada. Escaping the Utah cold and enjoying their adventures together. Mom got the nickname little spicy jalapeño and anyone who knew her knew why. Mom was sassy, funny, and never afraid to speak her mind.

Mom loved her family. She is survived by her husband, Lonnie Garner. Her three children, Vicki (Theron) Stewart, JR Strickler, Loni Sue (Jamie) Olsen. Her nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and another precious great grandchild expected in February. She is also survived by several loving siblings.

Mom is proceeded in death by her beloved daughter, Debbie Lynn, one grandchild, one great grandchild, one great-great grandchild, her parents, and several brothers and sisters.

Mom leaves behind more than memories. She leaves behind family traditions, favorite recipes, laughter that will be heard for years, and a whole lot of love. We will remember her singing, dancing, cooking, her unmatched Spanish speaking skills (if you know, you know), and keeping everyone in line with her unforgettable sass.

“I think about you every day
God, I really miss your face. If heaven can’t help me, can someone tell me how the same stars over my head are the same stars from the night that you left? Tell me, how do I exist in a world that you’re not in? Still looking at the same stars, they’ll never be the same stars.”
