Carolyn Jean Stimpson James
Pleasant View - How can we explain in a few short words, the life of a truly wonderful lady? On August 7, 2010, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Heavenly Father decided it was time to call home one of his choicest daughters. Carolyn Jean Stimpson James was born on August 13, 1940 to Delbert and Virginia Stimpson. She was raised in Riverdale, Utah where she enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School in 1958. During this period of her life she met many wonderful friends, the Riverdale Girls, who continue to enjoy the friendship they forged long ago.
Carolyn caught the eye of Clair James at the Berthana skating rink. They were married in Elko, Nevada, on June 29, 1957, and on April 24th, 1960 were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Clair and Carolyn are the parents of five wonderful sons, Chris (deceased), Craig (Rae Ann), Curtis (JaNae), Clay (Corie), and Corey (Marcy).
Weber County School District was fortunate enough to hire Carolyn. She enjoyed twenty-seven wonderful years in employment, ending her career at Weber High School, and loved the students she interacted with; many of whom called her AAA 1/2mom.AAA 1/2 Around Halloween, Carolyn used to dress up as a witch, and would scare Principal Earl Heninger. As the story is told, Earl would hear her cackle, then he would run and lock himself in the schoolAAA 1/2s safe. While at Weber High, Carolyn made several friends, with one very special person whom she considers her dearest friend to this day.
Carolyn had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings over the years. One of her favorite callings was working with the young people of her ward. She had the knack of seeing the promise of those young people, and loved them as she would her own children.
Over the years, Carolyn had a special group of friends called her AAA 1/2PinochleAAA 1/2 ladies. Carolyn wanted them to know how very much she cherished their times together. Judy, Clyde, Rose, Mont, Helen, and late husband Jim, she wants you to know how very much she loved you. The vacations, especially the laughter, and most of all the caring you gave her meant the world to her. She wants you to cherish, and laugh about the good times you all had together, she wouldnAAA 1/2t have missed it for the world. Carolyn had a quick wit, and everyone who knew her was blessed by having her in their lives.
She is the best grandma to Melissa Lee (Victor) Carrera, Beau (Alicia) James, Kassi (Brady) Leder, KC, Morgan (Curtis) Groft, Austin, Quinten, Stetsen, Dakota, Justice, Kennan, Sadie, Lindsey, Kirsten, and Bailey. Great-grandma is another cherished name she went by; her great-grandchildren are Braxton, Colbyn, Dallas, Madison, Ayson Beau, Maiyah. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Josette (Bob deceased) Stimpson, brother, Gary Stimpson, and two sisters, Bonnie (Tom) Van Cleave, and Deborah (Gene) Castle, and several loving nieces and nephews.
As an older sister, not one of her siblings ever doubted her love, caring, and dedication. When you think of the epitome of what a sister would be, Carolyn fit the role perfectly. Sis, you have left a hole that cannot be filled, but we know you will be at peace, and in the arms of our loving Heavenly Father and family, we will miss you dearly.
Clair, what can we say about his devotion to Carolyn through fifty-three years of marriage? These past few years have been extremely hard for him as he watched his beloved sweetheart, wife, friend, and eternal companion struggle with her health, and was at her side at the time of her passing. They enjoyed their life together with family and friends, and shared a love that would be difficult to duplicate in these times. Clair, know you are loved, supported, and surrounded by so many who feel your pain at this difficult time.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Shirley Mae, brother, Robert, and her beloved son Chris. We know there are many extended family and friends who have anxiously awaited her arrival, and will greet her with open arms.
The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for the love and care the Hospice nurses freely gave to Carolyn and her family during this difficult time.
