Cayley R. Nelson passed away September 2, 2013. He was 74 years of age.

Cayley Roy Nelson was born August 29, 1939, in San Diego, California to Roy Ragnard Nelson and Mildred Hortense "Dollie" Jensen. His father died when Cayley was two years old, so his mother came home to Brigham City to care for her aging parents until their passing. She met Herbert Earl Hoepfer when he was training at Bushnell Army Hospital. They were married before he was shipped to the Philippines. Dollie and Cayley then moved to Everett, Washington, here Cayley attended 1st grade. When Herb returned from war, they moved to North Dakota. They then came to South Ogden, Washington Terrace and North Ogden.
Cayley attended Birch Creek Elementary, South and Wahlquist Jr. High and was a proud member of Weber School graduating Class of 1957.

Cayley was called to serve a mission in the New Zealand South Mission where he served from 1959 to 1961. He left his heart in New Zealand and always said he was "born a century too late and the wrong color." Every time he returned for a visit, his family wondered if he would return home. He has been active in the New Zealand Missionary Society, just being released from the executive board in April, 2013.

Cayley was engaged to Beth Carver before his mission call. When they returned from their missions, they were married in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple on September 14, 1962.
Their three children are Cayley Troy Nelson of West Valley City, Julie and Clyde Wilson of South Ogden, and Megan and Tom Evans of South Ogden. Their grandchildren are Jake C. Wilson, Dallas Thomas Evans, Aubree Cayley Evans, Camrie Brailey Evans, Baker Troy Evans and Jerica Lanece Evans, all of South Ogden.

Cayley was with New York Life for 13 years, worked various sales jobs, and was a journeyman glazier. But the glass industry kept calling him back. On November 1, 1982, he and Kenneth McFarland and Gerald Naylor formed Western Glass Inc. Cayley and Kenneth bought out Jerry and later Cayley became owner. Western Glass has left its mark in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. They were asked to complete the Cauldron for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Cayley was active in the glass industry and was so grateful for friendships that came from states across the country.
Cayley served all his days in the church but his favorite callings were always centered around the young men and missionary work. He served a full time mission to New Zealand, two stake missions, as ward mission leader on two occasions, as a guide at the Ogden Temple visitors center for four years, Young Men's President on several occasions and he and Beth taught a Missionary Preparation class for 5A 1/2 years. He served as 1st Counselor in a Bishopric and in scouting.

Cayley wasn't a "yes Man" but you always knew where you stood with him. He was Beth's earthly miracle and was honorable and had a high standard of right and wrong. Being a member of Cayley's family was one adventure after another. Most of these adventures happened in the fall, as his passing will attest.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, aides, therapy aides who have been such a part of our lives the last four years. We've had a lot of miracles along the way.

Cayley is survived by his wife, Beth; son, Troy; daughters, Julie and Megan; and Beth's family who became his family, Elaine Christensen, Nancy Kendell, Janet and Jay Gibson and Larry Carver.
