Vharles Hood Gomm Obituary (1929 - 2001)

ROY - On Thursday, December 6, the world lost an extraordinary and wonderful man. No one feels the loss greater than his adoring family and loyal friends. Charles "Chuck" Hood Gomm, 72 died Thursday afternoon at the Manor Care Health Services after suffering with Parkinson's disease. Chuck was born September 14, 1929, at Bear River City, Utah, a son of William Issac and Janet Hood Gomm. On November 29, 1947 he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Hardy. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on April 29, 1964. Last month they celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary. Chuck was a phenomenal father and grandfather. Some of the happiest memories of our lives were shared hunting, fishing, playing ball or wrestling in the backyard with our dad and grandpa. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Gomm, two daughters: Cathie Olmstead and Pamela Gomm and two sons: Craig Gomm and Scott Gomm. Chuck also had twelve grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and one great-grandson. His family was the most important thing in his life and his devotion and love for them was unquestionable. Chuck is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Alta Mae Niesen of St. George. Hard work and physical labor were no strangers to Chuck. He believed in giving his best in whatever job he undertook. He worked for Pillsbury Mills for thirty six years where he served many years as the Shop Steward and at the time of his retirement was the Superintendent of the Elevator Department. He enjoyed golf, archery, hunting, fishing and watching whatever ball game was on television. He could fix anything and had creative solutions to any problem that arose. To his posterity, Chuck left a legacy of love. He never met a person he didn't like. He was the champion of the underdog and treated every individual with dignity, respect and kindness. He was a great example to us all and we learned this very important life lesson from him. During his illness, Chuck was surrounded by many loved ones and friends. He was highly respected and appreciated by his neighbors and friends.
