SO. OGDEN AAA 1/2 Charles Henry Johnson passed away peacefully on September 6, 2011. He was born June 13, 1920 in Hansboro, North Dakota to Della Hattie Stevenson and John William Franklin Johnson. He married Joyce Holmes on April 6, 1943 at her parentsAAA 1/2 home near Brigham City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.

Charles was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters. He grew up on a wheat farm in North Dakota 7 miles south of the Canadian border on land that was homesteaded by his mother. He often bragged that he graduated in the top ten of his high school class (there were eleven students). He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945. He was baptized a member of the LDS Church in the Hawaiian Temple during his service in the Navy.

He enjoyed traveling and visited every U.S. state except Vermont. One of his favorite stories was when he hitch-hiked from North Dakota to Oregon in 1940 to attend his third year of college. He started out with only $5 and, he loved to tell us that, he still had AAA 1/2a dollar three -eighty-fiveAAA 1/2 in his pocket when he arrived.

Charles was the unifying influence and hub of his large extended family. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, children: Carol Barbian (Dennis), Darrell Johnson (deceased) (Cheryle), Ken Johnson (Marie), Charlene Durham, Lynette Fawson (Paul), Deanna Schroeder (Pete), Janeil Pluim (Doug), and Marilyn Johnson-Faulkner (Tracy); and 29 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, an older sister Edna Rosenberger, and many other cherished extended family members.

The family thanks the many wonderful friends and caregivers who contributed to the quality of his life during his final few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the AlzheimerAAA 1/2s Association in memory of Chuck. www.alz.org
