Our loving father, grandfather and friend, Charles August Kraft, passed away Nov 10, 2022 in Layton, Utah. Charlie was born April 21, 1933 in Waterville, Kansas. He grew up on a farm until the depression hit and then his family moved around trying to make ends meet.
Charlie served in the Korean War in 1953 doing KP as a night baker.
He married Sharon Douglass Dec 21, 1956 and they had two beautiful daughters, Louise and Marie. He always worked hard to provide for his little family including building an addition to their 3-room house in Teton City, Idaho, trimming trees, farming, driving the local school bus, serving as town Marshal and school custodian, shaping lumber at the stud mill, and finally working as the Warehouse Manager for Utah Power and Light in Rexburg, Idaho.
He and Sharon created a beautiful homestead on their 5 acres in Teton City. It was a home filled love and service and the absolute best grand-parent home on the earth with two gigantic weeping willow trees, irrigation ditches, horse corrals and sheds surrounded by a 3-rail split log fence. Among the hundreds of memories is when...one son-in-law...blew a hole through Sharon's favorite Rick's College sweatshirt with a potato gun designed by...the other son-in-law.
Retirement years were spent at Lake Havasu City, Arizona with Sharon, soaking up the hot sun and avoiding the snow. He loved his 10 years of being a greeter at the Eagles, meeting new people, making many great friends and gaining a second family. His dear Sharon passed away in 2017 leaving him alone and lonely in spite of his many friends, and he longed to be with her again. Charlie is survived by his two daughters, Louise (Richard) Brandley and Marie (Steve) Wise, along with his 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Charlie's 89 years were filled with and defined by service to those in need. He lovingly and willingly looked for ways he could lift other's burdens and bring light and friendship into their lives. Everyone who knew him liked him or loved him. He was always gentle, pleasant, thoughtful, and kind. Charlie lived a life of honor and service and left a great legacy for us to follow.
