Charlie Howard Mcelyea Obituary (2006)

Charlie Howard McElyea Layton - Charlie Howard McElyea, age 87, passed away March 31, 2006, at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield, Utah of natural causes. He was born May 5, 1918, in Maymead, Tennessee, to Conley and Emma Rash McElyea. He married Shelia Richards on Aug. 21, 1940, she passed away Aug. 16, 1976. He married Doris Mellor on Oct. 9, 1977 in Clearfield, Utah. Charlie served in the Army during WWII where he received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medals for his service. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Baptist church. He also managed the Davis Drive-In Theater for over 30 years. Survived by his wife, Doris; children, Bart D. (Crystal) McElyea, Charlene Gurganious, both of St. George; Jack (Barbara) Edsinger, West Haven; Ron (Lavon) Edsinger, Ogden; 9 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous step grand and great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Barton McElyea, Grants Pass, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shelia; and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 11:00 AM in the Myers Mortuary chapel, 250 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening 6-8 PM and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Malad City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
