Charles (Chuck) Ray Voris Obituary (1925

Charles R. (Chuck) Voris Charles Ray Voris, 87, passed away on December 12, 2012. He was born on May 25, 1925, in Ponca City, OK, to Carl R. and Alice M. (Brewer) Voris. He was an Ensign in the Navy (1943-48) and a member of the Naval Reserves (1948-58). The V-12 Officers Training Program sent him to the University of the South in Sewanee, TN; and Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, where he received his BS degree in mechanical engineering. While at Sewanee, he would hitchhike 50 miles to attend the First Christian Church in Chattanooga, TN, where he met his "darling"a"his sweet, southern girl, Dorothy J. (Dot) Martin. They were married for 60 years until her death in 2007. His goal during those years was to always ensure her happiness. He started working for Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Marshall, TX (1953). He was transferred to the Elkton, MD, plant (1955) and on to the Utah facilities west of Brigham City (1958). He retired from Thiokol Propulsion (ATK) after 36 years of working on many missile programs. He had a major role in the design of the Space Shuttle boosters and other rocket motors. Chuck and Dorothy then began traveling abroad. They also enjoyed being snowbirds in their motor home by leaving the cold Utah winters behind and touring the country. Eventually, they spent seven winter months of every year in Mesa, AZ. While on the road, he decided he wanted to have a hobby, and genealogy was conducive to life in a motor home. He published two ancestral books and completed three-quarters of a third book. Chuck belonged to the Masonic Amity Lodge No. 23 in Brigham City. He was a 32-degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the El Kalah Shriners where he served the community as a clown named Chuckles. He enjoyed the parades and making the children smile with his balloon animals. He was devoted to the brotherhood and charitable works of the Shriners. As a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Brigham City, he was the choir director for over 30 years and a member of the Vestry. After moving to Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living in Clearfield in 2007, he attended St. Peters. His life was spent upholding his Christian principles and teaching his family his high values through his daily example. He was our rock. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Robinson (Jerry Easthope) of West Point; three grandchildren: Lori Williams (Jeff) of Syracuse, Amy Turbyfill (Sandy) of West Haven, and Matt Robinson (Krista) of Eagle Mountain (all in Utah); eight great-grandchildren: Kolby, Dallion, Brittany, Hayden, Smith, Van, Brick, and Kit; and one great-great granddaughter, Skyy Lynn. Also surviving are two sisters: Alice (Sam) Penny and Margaret (Ralph) Barringer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1579 S State St., Clearfield, UT.
