Cheryl Jean Slocum Gottfredson Obituary (1944 - 2012)

Cheryl Slocum Gottfredson of Kaysville and formerly of North Ogden and Provo passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 of cancer. She was born July 1, 1944 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Harold Strang and Gladys Elneda Slocum. Cheryl grew up in Chicago until she was 13 years old. Then her family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she graduated from Richfield High School. She is a graduate of BYU and served a mission to Washington State for the LDS Church. Following her mission she taught school and worked at the BYU Library for ten years. She married Lynn Gottfredson in 1982 in the Provo Temple. Cheryl was active in the LDS Church and held many callings. She served on two humanitarian expeditions to Guatemala. The highlight of her life was serving two proselyting missions together with her husband in the Philippines. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple and as a consultant at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. She enjoyed sports, sewing, reading, and family history work. Her caring personality has influenced the lives of many people. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Lynn Gottfredson; four children, Suzanne Wayment (Brent) of Ogden, Gary Gottfredson (Gina) of St. George, Cathy Farr (Eric) of Alpine, Ryan Gottfredson (Jena) of Bloomington, Indiana and 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Kathy (Lynn) MCKell of Provo, Nancy Hiatt of Clemens, North Carolina and Meriden (Jim) Toombs of Tucson, Arizona. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25 at the Angel Park Ward Chapel, 205 South Angel Street, Kaysville, Utah. Friends and Family may call and pay their respects at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah on Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and also at the church prior to services from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. Interment will be at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, UT.
