Chest Burton, Jr Obituary (1923 - 2006)

Chest Burton, Jr. OGDEN - Chest Burton Jr., beloved husband, father and grandfather passed into his heavenly existence on May 17, 2006. Chest was born to Chess Burton and Queen Esther Tony Burton on January 22, 1923 in Buckner, AR. He was one of seven children. Chest married Lenora Dockery on October 15, 1943, they moved to Ogden in 1946. He was employed at the Southern Pacific railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1984. He was also employed at Sato's Farms and Carol Bachman Window Washing Company. Chest was a member of New Zion Baptist church for almost 60 years. Chest was a member of the Old Car Club of Ogden. He was an avid fisherman in his younger years. He was also a hunter and a camper. Chest loved to travel the country and go to his favorite place, Falcon Arkansas. Chest was a gardener. He loved his roses and took pride in his yard. Friends and strangers alike would come and compliment him on his roses and yard. Chest's most famous project was his cotton patch, which he presented to Ogden on a yearly basis. Until Chest, it was not known that cotton could be grown in this region. Chest received Ogden City's Good Neighbor award from the mayor. Chest had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh and joke with friends and strangers alike. Chest loved to take his family on Sunday rides and eat ice cream cones. Chest was a family man who loved and enjoyed his family. Chest is survived by his wife of 63 years Lenora Dockery Burton; children Vernie (Conrad) Stevenson, Layton; Minnie Roberts, Los Angeles, CA; Nayyirah Madyun, Charlotte, NC; Sharon (Waldo) Danzy, Ogden; Jannet Burton, West Valley; Jennett Burton, Washington Terrace; Kenneth (La Donna) Burton, Nashville, TN; Chest Burton III, Salt Lake City; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Chest is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Chest was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Willie, Willie-Mae, Pearlie, Ben, Thelma, Virgie; his daughter Lorraine Cooper and son-in-law Pender Madyun. Chest is dearly loved by all of his family and his presence will be sorely missed. We love you!
