Christin Hancey Sawyer Obituary (1951 - 2010)

Christin Hancey Sawyer NORTH OGDEN - Christin Hancey Sawyer, woman of exceeding faith, love and courage returned to her kind Heavenly Father on November 1, 2010 surrounded by her beloved family at McKay-Dee Hospital. She was born in Ogden, Utah on December 4, 1951 to Darrell D. and Addie Lou (Henrie) Hancey. Her family hailed her as a gift from heaven giving her love, support, and teachings of truth and wisdom. In time she was joined by her brothers David and Douglas, and sister Cheryl all of whom she loved very much. On September 14, 1973 Chris married her eternal sweetheart, G. Thomas Sawyer in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Their life together of 37 years was filled with joy and love beyond comprehension. In 1986 they became parents of a beautiful little girl, Emily Jane Sawyer. The role of motherhood was Chris' most significant work of her earthly life. Her love and concern for Emily gave Chris the greatest of all joys. Her influence as a mother is now eternal. As a wife and mother she excelled. In 1970 Chris graduated from Ogden High School and later graduated from Weber State University. As a Registered Nurse she served her fellow beings. She was a friend and a sister to all of God's children. The spectrum of her service ranged from postpartum care of new mothers, to Drug and Alcoho9l Treatment, to public health nursing with the Weber-Morgan Health Department. After 35 plus years of professional service, Chris retired in 2009. She loved her work and her community. Chris had a zest for life and a joy that influenced everyone she met. Her keen mind and wisdom was unsurpassed. As a liberal democrat, she made people laugh and critically think through issues and complex situations. She was a devout follower of Jesus Christ, and had an unwavering testimony of the Book of Mormon and the Holy Bible. To the young women of the church and to her more experienced, "fine feathered sisters", she was a remarkable teacher. Chris and her family would like to express their sincere gratitude for all those who helped in so many different ways during her time of illness. We will forever think of her with love until we meet again. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with a gathering at 10:00 a.m. at the North Ogden Utah East Stake Center located at 950 East 2850 North in North Ogden.
