C. Denton Brough Obituary (1923 - 2011)

C. Denton Brough, 88 Syracuse resident C. Denton Brough, 88, died May 22, 2011, at the Rocky Mountain Care facility in Clearfield. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. A long-time resident of Ogden, Mr. Brough was born January 25, 1923, at his grandmother's home in Clarkston, Cache County, Utah. He attended North Cache High School, Los Angeles High School, and graduated with a business degree from Heald College in Oakland, CA. Mr. Brough served in the US Navy as a Radioman and Electrician's Mate in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following the war, he served as an LDS missionary in the West Central States Mission and the Western States Mission. On May 7, 1951, Mr. Brough married Betty Lou Burrell in the Logan LDS Temple. They had only recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. With a career in office management and accounting, Mr. Brough worked in positions in CA, NM, and UT, but ultimately retired from a job with the Welfare Services Department at the LDS Church. Most recently a member of the Bluff Ridge Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Brough served in many church callings, including Elders' Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Financial Clerk, Cub master, and teacher in several organizations. He served three years as president of the Clovis, New Mexico, LDS Branch. Mr. Brough is preceded in death by his parents, George and Beatrice Brough, and brother, Grant Brough. He is survived by his wife, Betty Brough, sons: Dwight (Susan) Brough of Dallas, TX; Gary Brough of Fruit Heights; daughters: April Brough of Layton; Susan (Mark) Griffith of Syracuse; sisters: Marian Wright of Smithfield and Dixie (Robert) Feenan of Windsor, CA; and "adopted" son Jack Bingham of Orem. Denton Brough's life and legacy lives on in 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bluff Ridge Ward Chapel, 535 W. 2700 S. Syracuse, UT. A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 25, at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W, Roy, UT from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Mr. Brough will be buried Thursday, May 26, at 2:30 p.m. at the Avon Cemetery in Cache County.
