Clyde Stratford Wade

Clyde Stratford Wade, 89, passed away Sat. July 26, 2008. Clyde was born March 19, 1919 to Myron Edward Wade and Ina Roseltha Stratford in Warren, UT. As a farm boy he loved the relief baseball provided and played 3rd base on championship teams. While attending Weber High, he served as president of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) and was a cheerleader. He attended Weber College where he met his true love, Ada Weir. They married Oct. 18, 1942, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He also attended the U of U where he was the Ute mascot. During WW II, Clyde served as a sergeant in the 29th Division and fought in Belgium and across Germany.

After the war, Clyde and Ada had three children, and he graduated with Bachelor and Masters degrees from the U of U. He taught elementary school in Layton and Ogden. He renovated and rented apartments full time until he retired.

Clyde loved to travel. In 1959 he bought a travel trailer and took his family each summer on trips throughout the US, Mexico and Canada. Clyde traveled with Les after his mission in Washington DC. He and Ada drove to Guatemala while Kim and Trish served in the Ayuda Project. Clyde, Ada and Trish met Kim in Peru after his mission. Clyde returned to Europe to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.

Clyde was devoted to the LDS Church and served in numerous callings including bishopric in the Ogden 4th Ward with Bishop Melvin Schwartz. He also served as Sunday School President and held other callings in the 54th Ward.

Clyde struggled but overcame many challenges: the home of his youth was destroyed by fire; the early loss of his parents; the war; arthritis in his legs from a war injury; a mugging; and numerous arsons and problems with the apartments.

Clyde and his loving wife Ada recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Clyde loved his three children and five grandchildren and supported them by attending concerts and sporting events, and taking them on trips. He is survived by his wife Ada; daughter Patricia (Trish); son Leslie (Les); son Kim; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister Ruth Butler (Ellis); and numerous nieces and nephews.
