Cole Steed

–

Midway, Utah

Our beloved “Papa,” son, brother, uncle, and friend, Richard “Cole” Steed, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the age of 43—coincidentally his favorite number. He leaves behind broken hearts, cherished memories and loved ones who look forward to a beautiful reunion in the next life.

Cole was an adventurer who loved living life to the fullest. He was the life of the party, known for his big personality, contagious laugh, and loud, often boisterous “Happy Birthday” solos for family and friends. He had a way of making people feel welcomed, included, and loved. He gave the best bear hugs, and behind his larger-than-life personality was a tender heart that cared deeply for others.

Cole loved bringing people together and was often the ringmaster behind the next big adventure. He enjoyed golfing, boating, snowboarding, biking, river rafting, and just about anything that brought people together for a good time. He was also passionate about cooking and loved going the extra mile to prepare extravagant meals, charcuterie boards, and desserts for the people he loved.

Cole loved music, lyrics, and had a gift with words. He would often say, “There is no try, only do. You either do or you don’t.” He wrote poems from a young age and often knew just the song for any occasion.

Cole loved the beauty of nature, especially wildflowers and sunsets. He was always picking wildflowers to make bouquets for others and sending pictures of the day’s sunset. He had a way of finding beauty in the simple things and sharing it with loved ones.

Above all, Cole had a generous spirit and a heart that felt deeply. He was the kind of person who would give what he had and do whatever he could for everyone he came in contact with. He experienced profound heartbreak when his younger brother, Kord Brown, passed away in 2021. In the years that followed, Cole worked hard to navigate his grief and face each new day. His resilience and determination to keep getting back up, even when life was difficult, were a testament to his strength.

Cole’s greatest pride and joy were his two daughters, 11-year-old Emberlie Steed and 9-year-old Scarlett Lepiten. He loved them more than words can express and wanted them to always know they were a part of him. He had their names tattooed on his forearms so he could carry them with him wherever life took him. His love for his girls was one of the greatest parts of who he was, and they will forever be a part of his heart.

Cole was born on January 15, 1983, in Ogden, Utah, to Julie (Florence) Brown and Richard Steed.

He is survived by his cherished daughters, Emberlie and Scarlett; his parents, Julie and Steve Brown, and his father, Richard Steed, and Richard’s fiancée, Jaymie Barker; his sister, April Hartzell, and her son, Eastin; his brother, Carver Steed, and his son, Brandt; his brother, Quade Brown; and his niece, Pearl Brown.

Cole is welcomed with open arms by his brothers Kord Brown; and Tyler Steed; his grandparents Joseph and Lurlien Florence; and Marv and Shirley Steed, and many others.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Cole on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support his daughters, Emberlie and Scarlett. Contributions can be made via Venmo @april-hartzell-1. (https://account.venmo.com/u/April-Hartzell-1)

Cole will be remembered for his enormous heart, his unforgettable laugh, his bear hugs, his generosity, and the way he made life bigger, louder, and more memorable for those around him. He is deeply loved and will be missed more than words can ever say.
