Connie Lea Francis Bowman

ROY - Connie Lea Francis Bowman, 72, died peacefully Tuesday, September 16, 2008 of cancer, at Ogden Regional Medical Center in Ogden, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 18, 1935 in Ogden, Utah the eldest daughter of James Edward Francis and Ida Parkinson.

She was educated in Ogden City schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1953. She graduated from Weber Junior College in Ogden, Utah in 1955, where she was active in the La Dianaeda Sorority, and singing and music groups.

She married Richard Alkire Bowman on September 10, 1955 in Ogden, Utah and was later solemnized March 12, 1974 in the Logan LDS Temple. She worked as a bookkeeper for Commercial Credit Corporation in Ogden, and after the birth of their first child, Connie dedicated her life and time as a full time homemaker, devoted to raising their family of four children. Throughout her life she was always active and involved in causes that she believed in, whether it was in her church, civic or just volunteering to help others. She was a member of the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary (Jaycettes) and served on that organization's board of directors and was a vice president. She received the organization's Key Woman Award. She never turned down any assignment in her church, and dedicated herself unselfishly to many and various teaching and leadership positions in the LDS Church, in both music and the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association.

Her husband's occupation at Utah Power relocated their family to Preston, Idaho in 1967. During their sixteen years there she continued her volunteer involvement in many civic, church, and school activities. She served as a
member of the Pink Ladies Association at the Franklin County Hospital; a volunteer office worker at Oakwood Elementary school; a substitute teacher at Preston High school and an officer in the Preston High school PTA. She sang for many years with the Preston Rotary Christmas Choir and was a member of the Preston Kiwanis Club Auxiliary (K-Ann's).

Her husband's assignment with the power company returned them back to this area in 1983 and they made their home in Roy, Utah. Here, she sang with the Jay Welch Chorale in Salt Lake City, Utah; The Ogden Community Choir; she was a member of St. Benedict's Hospital Pink Ladies Association, where she received awards for more than 1, 500 hours of service. She also served for several years as a Weber County Election Judge. She was an active member of the Roy 11th LDS Ward and held teaching, primary chorister and organist assignments. She was Relief Society President, and served for eight years, as Data Input Coordinator for the Roy North LDS Stake Genealogy Extraction program.

Connie always possessed a cheerful, friendly, feisty, fun loving, give-and-take personality. She was completely a non-judgmental individual, willing to listen to everyone, while possessing the unique talent of getting along with, and relating to people of any age. She had an uplifting personality, and on your worst day, she could bring a smile to your face or make you laugh.

She had many hobbies throughout her life, but her greatest joy was sharing time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always looked forward to being surrounded by her family, and there were never enough cookouts, dinners or parties to satisfy her need to be with her family. Connie and Dick had their 53rd Wedding Anniversary on September 10th during her last days in the hospital.

She is survived by her husband and the following children: James Scott (Juanita) Bowman, North Logan; Barbara Ann (Nile) Checketts, Preston, Idaho; Mikel Richard (Sharon) Bowman, Roy; and Jenifer Kim (David) Hoehne, San Ramon, California, The following grandchildren: Richard Lee (Shelly) Bowman, Logan; Stefanie (Micah) Garbanati, Logan; Elder Andrew Scott Bowman, serving an LDS Mission in San Bernardino, California; Chad Nile (Tana) Checketts, Preston, Idaho; Brian Bowman (Megan) Checketts, Preston, Idaho; Mikel Quinn and Garrett Anthony Bowman, Roy; and six great-grandchildren: McKenzie Lea Bowman, Braxton Richard Bowman, MaKayla Garbanati, Skylee Checketts, Madyson Leigh Checketts and Kaylee Parella, and two sisters: Julie (Ivins) Schmid, Bern, Idaho and Kathy (Stuart) Lee, Ogden, and several nieces and nephews.
