Connie Gayle (Peterson) Cook

–

Ogden, UT

Connie Gayle Cook,
Our beloved sister, mother, grandmother and friend, Connie Gayle Cook, 75, of Ogden, Utah, left us peacefully on 12 March 2020 to be with her Father in Heaven. Her passing was a beautiful event at home filled with family and friends, tears, laughter and music.

She was born to parents Valera Faye Peterson and Donald (Pete) Peterson, on 09/10/1944 in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Mom worked as a Volunteer in many capacities while Tanya and I were growing up. Once she felt we were alright without her being home all day she began her career with Ogden City. First as a secretary for the Ogden Police Department and later as Secretary for Marshal White Community Center. She was known by the kids that attended the Center as Miss Connie. With my (Valera) help in designing it and many other indentured family members and friends, Mom spent a week every year creating a free haunted house at the center so kids in the neighborhood had a safe place to go for Halloween. All were very proud of their contribution in setting up the haunted House and being part of the cast.
Mom was full of life and energy. She is a woman who would give you her last shirt if you needed it. She loved being a mother and grandmother and could often be seen swaying back and forth as if soothing a baby. She was quick to cry for those in pain and would drop everything to be there for the person in need. She had a bit of a unique sense of humor that often required us to warn newcomers and often had her family and friends in tears from laughter.

She enjoyed spending time with her Children and Grandchildren both real and adopted. Everyone she met called her Mom or Grandma (G'Ma). She even adopted Jeff's entire Karate Studio full of students at Evolutionary Martial Arts in Syracuse and the many other kids and their families in Jeff's Karate world. Her favorite places to go were Yellowstone and the beach, any beach. Mom enjoyed music, swimming, reading and watching TV.

She is survived by Nikki Tranberg, Sister, Kerry Benkoski, Sister, Scott Peterson, Brother, Tanya (Scott) Clements, Daughter, Valera (John) Rebeck, Daughter, Jeffrey (Jenna) Price, Grandson, Alexis (Broc) Bennett, Granddaughter, Kortnee Hartman, Granddaughter, Chet Rees, Grandson, John (JP) Rebeck, grandson, Travis (Sheyna) Clements, Grandson, Amber (Mike) Roghaar, Granddaughter, Bridger Clements, Grandson, Leighanne Bishop, Granddaughter, Joseph (Terra) Rebeck, Grandson, Angela Rebeck, Granddaughter, Ashleigh (Clint) Della Lucia, Granddaughter and 21 Great Grandchildren including the two who are on the way. Also surviving mom is her precious canine companion, Ruby. People often said she rescued Ruby but those closest to her knew that Ruby Rescued her. Mom was in desperate need to have someone to care for full time and she spoiled Ruby completely.
She was preceded in death by Valera Faye Peterson, Mother, Donald (Pete) Peterson, Father, Dewitt Tranberg, Brother in Law, and Stan Benkoski, Brother in Law, Troy Rees, Son in Law.
The family has entrusted Myers Mortuary with her care. Mom requested a private viewing and no funeral. She only wanted a Graveside Ceremony at the Myers Evergreen Memorial Park where she will be interred. This service will be scheduled at a later date as there are family members who cannot be here at this time. The family has decided to have this gathering of friends and family in the spring when the flowers are in bloom. Please notify any family member if you would like to be there and we will forward the information to you as soon as a date is set later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association or The Humane Society. To share condolences online, visit Connie's obituary at https://www.myers-mortuary.com/
