Connie Byington Murphy peacefully left this life on September 19, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. In the weeks preceding her death, she was surrounded by family and loved ones, and is now experiencing a joyous reunion with her son, parents, and others that have passed on before her. She was born on November 19, 1940 to John Earl and Margaret Moore Byington and was part of a large, hardworking family.
She met John Edward Murphy, Jr. and they were later married on May 6, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. She was the mother of four children: Pamela Murphy, John Edward Murphy III ("Eddie"), Cheryl (Nathan) Howard, and Allison (Shay) Shaw. She was a wonderful mother and would have done anything for her children.
She lived in Hooper all her life and was proud to be a Hooper-ite. She attended Hooper Elementary, Wahlquist Jr. High, and graduated from Weber High School in 1959. She worked at HAFB until her first daughter was born. Afterwards, she babysat, worked at the Hooper Post Office delivering mail, and was a lunch lady at Roy Jr. High. She later returned to HAFB until she retired in 1994.
Connie was a very talented seamstress. She enjoyed making clothing for her children, as well as knitting, crochet, and cross stitch. She loved to garden, cook, and can homegrown fruit and vegetables. She also kept beautiful roses. She had a passion for genealogy and writing family histories of ancestry. She was also a great cook and everyone loved her "Connie rolls". She used all of these talents in the service of others, including baking for neighbors and humanitarian projects.
Above all, Connie loved her family. She was so devastated when she lost her only son, Eddie in 1981, but carried on through her grief and heartache. She dearly loved her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great grandson.
She is survived by her husband, John, her three daughters, and her beloved grandchildren: Christian, Trevor, and ShayLynn Shaw, Ashley and Madilyn Howard, and Kimmie Gallegos, plus one great grandson: Eli Shaw. She is also survived by her nine siblings: Dean (Linda) Byington, Marge (Ken) Becraft, Ken (Laurie) Byington, Leon Byington, Sharon (Greg) Ford, Delma Woodruff, Elaine Byington, Jane (Brian) Marquardt, and Jean Spendlove, plus an adopted sister Tracy Knight.
This great lady will be missed so much by family and friends, but we are relieved that she is at peace. The family wants to express sincere appreciation to Gary Drescher, PA-C, the staff at LDS Hospital and Ogden Regional Medical Center, Legacy Healthcare, and all of the other various caregivers who provided excellent care during her final days.
