Curtis A. Salisbury

–

Roy, Utah

ROY- Curtis Adams Salisbury, surrounded by his family, passed peacefully on January 5, 2023, after a courageous battle with leukemia and the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
Curt was born March 24, 1946, to Paul C. Salisbury and Afton Adams Salisbury. His was described by his grandmother Rachel "Tilly" Adams as "such a tiny mite, weighed less than 4 pounds." Alongside his older sister Jennifer, he was raised in Riverdale, Utah. Curt learned the value of hard work in the hay fields, bean farms and fruit orchards of Riverdale. He attended the historic Riverdale Elementary, Roy Jr. High and graduated in 1964 from Weber High School. He would also later attend Weber State College.
Curt was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a missionary, he served in the Central States Mission, which was comprised of Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
Throughout his life, he was dedicated to the many roles and service opportunities that allowed him to mentor and serve his fellow church members, including roles in bishoprics, Young Men, and Sunday School presidencies--but he will mostly be remembered for his love of the scouting program, and the many young men he served. Curt served as Scoutmaster several times throughout the years bringing fun, excitement, adventure, long-lasting learning, and memories to every event.
As a young boy, the hiking and camping experiences in the beautiful mountains and canyons of Utah, established a life-long interest in the most remote and scenic locations of the American West.
He loved the young men in his neighborhood, and helped many excel in their ranks-- supporting their efforts in earning their Eagle Scout award. He was also thrilled to participate in and complete the esteemed "Wood Badge" training a few years ago.
In 1968, Curt married Jane Stewart in the Salt Lake Temple. They continued their life in Riverdale and were blessed with four beautiful children; Nathan (Janae), Cindy (Benjamin) LaRose, Jill (Edward) Martin, and Rachal (Dustin) Green.
Curt expressed that he wants it known to all that he was especially proud of his children and their companions.
His children's fondest memories include countless adventures camping throughout Utah and Idaho including various sand dunes and National Parks with the Bonhams, Weavers and Hadleys. Curt instilled in his children the value of applying the best of themselves no matter the task at hand. Curt and Jane were divorced after 19 years, but remained friends.
Curt was an exceptionally hard worker. He always had a job-- usually two. After his mission, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad, Baker's Shoes, and JCPenney located on Washington Blvd. He later managed Shepherd Manufacturing, several Fashion Fabrics and Remnant Barns across the Wasatch Front. He found his true passion and joy while working for Knudson Construction and Max Oliver Construction where he was inspired to start his own construction company-- Salisbury Construction and Remodeling. He also began and ended his work day driving a school bus for Weber School District retiring after 30 years.
Curt's hobbies included motorcycle riding, camping, and history for which he collected and read numerous books. With his knowledge, he would have been an exceptional history teacher, especially of World War II. He also had a love for the "good 'ole boys" club. Curt was an exceptional artist offering his talent to many through business signs, church lessons, children's and grandchildren's school projects, and his loving finishing touches to birthday cards. His artwork was also displayed in his many scrapbooks for which he was passionate and took any opportunity to share.
On January 28, 1995, Curt met his love and soul-mate, Ronna Hennessy Crouch. They were married three months later on April 28, 1995, and Curt moved a few blocks from Riverdale to the city of Roy. A year later, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Bountiful Temple. In his very own words, "Ronna was an incredible blessing in his life." Curt's family grew adding Ronna's four children; daughter Chalese (Brian) Griffin, and three sons, Daniel Crouch, Tyler (Tarra) Crouch, and Michael Crouch. Together they have 31 grandchildren, five of which are married--with Curt's hopes of soon-to-be great-grandchildren.
For two years, Curt and Ronna served as ordinance workers in the old Ogden Temple, and in October 2017, they served a two-year service mission at Camp Liberty in Liberty, Utah. These experiences brought many blessings and the associations of many friends. Ronna became Curt's student -- not the history type, but with his extensive camping experience and vast knowledge of Utah, she quickly joined him in his passion for travel. Curt really loved the scenic magnificence of the North American West--especially the majestic mountains and painted deserts of the western states. Over the years, he showed Ronna all of the beauty that Utah has to offer. Additionally, some of her children's fondest memories are of those they experienced while traveling with him. As with his own family, with his big heart, he taught Ronna's family by example and encouragement to be their best, work hard, and always love and stay close with their Savior, Jesus Christ. To his grandchildren, he was "Campin' Grandpa."
Curt and Ronna had many friends join them in their adventures of fifth-wheel camping and days-long side-by-side rides. Together with their friends, they traveled several times yearly in Utah and bordering states. Curt spoke often of their "Border-to-Border" rides embarking from the top of the Uintah Mountains, and razoring for six days across the top of the mountain ranges concluding their excursion at the Arizona border just outside of Kanab.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, sister, niece, nephew and many beloved aunts and an uncle.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Intermountain Homecare & Hospice for the care and kindness shown to their husband, father, grandfather, and cousin, and to the many friends and neighbors for their thoughts, prayers, and loving service.
Also, special love and thanks to "Dr. Ben" (LaRose). Curt's never-ending tenacity and positive attitude shown as bright ever as he battled against cancer.
He beat prostate cancer in 2020 during the thick of the Covid-19 pandemic. His leukemia diagnosis in the spring of 2022 was later deemed a tender mercy to the challenges and decreased quality of life as a result of Alzheimer's. He never lost his positivity and hopes of recovering. Through the memory loss, he never knew his time was limited. He spoke of many more adventures with his sweetheart and plans to update the yard. A week before his passing while trying to get up from bed, he said, "I need to get on about life." As he did here, Curt will energetically be accomplishing the work he will now be called to do. No doubt, he will help make heaven efficient.
