Dakota "Doc" Keith Butler Click here to listen to the funeral recording. Dakota "Doc" Keith Butler was called home to his Heavenly Father on June 20, 2017 after an accident at work. He was born on March 20, 1999 to Michelle and Brandon Butler of Farr West. Doc was the second son born to Michelle and Brandon. His big brother, Wyatt, was in love with him from the moment he laid eyes on him and both brothers welcomed their little brother, Jesye, when he joined the family, though Doc honored his duty as a loving big brother to give Jesye a hard time once in a while. Doc attended Farr West Elementary, Wahlquist Junior High, and Fremont High School. He played recreational football for many years and baseball for Wahlquist Junior High. His competitive streak and his natural athletic-ability made him excel at every sport he tried, including mountain biking, surfing, skiing, skateboarding, indoor soccer, wake boarding, and dodgeball to name a few. Him and his friends even invented their own sport: couch-boarding (they bought an old couch from the DI and attached some snowboard pieces to it and the rest was history). He loved to go fast, and was always grateful when his uncle Toby could help him get out of trouble because of it. He especially loved riding his motorbike at the sand dunes. Doc was spontaneous; he was always up for an adventure and he had no fear. He seemed to know that he'd be called home early and thus he did his best to live every minute of his life to the fullest! Doc learned how to be a hard worker from his dad and how to be kind from his mom. He cherished his family and friends above everything in his life. He was wise beyond his years and had a knack for remembering and reciting one-liners from movies. He couldn't put his needs above another's, if he saw someone in need, he'd do everything he could to help. He'd literally give someone the shirt off his back and then walk away saying it was no big deal, he didn't need it anyway. He had an uncanny knack for making everyone feel important. No one was left out if Doc was around. His smile was contagious and his laugh was infectious. Doc did well in school--though sometimes he'd have to turn off his phone the last week of a quarter so he wasn't tempted to go hang out with his friends instead of catching-up on his schoolwork. He was a member of the FFA and lettered in Engineering Design Technology. He was especially proud and honored when he was passed Fremont's "Spirit Head." Doc was humble about being nominated for Senior Cotillion Royalty, asking people not to vote for him because he felt someone else deserved it more than him. He graduated last month having earned 4 cords. He was ever practical. On a ski-trip to Sun Valley with friends, while his friends were buying things like sunglasses, he bought a goggle-cleaning cloth that had a map of the resort on it, promising his friends that the next day, he'd be the only one that didn't get lost. He loved to build things and had a mind for mechanics. He loved his vehicles, especially his '95 Chevy Z28 Camaro, which with the help of his dad and grandpa, he built from the tires up. His friends weren't allowed to slam its doors, or even move the air vents. And his dad says, he's still not sure how his vehicle lost its spot in the garage to Doc's Camaro. Doc will be missed every day. He touched so many lives; he was an example to everyone who knew him. We may never know why his life was cut short but we do know that he definitely wouldn't want us to be sad. His graduation announcement, prophetically read, "I'm not here for a long time, I'm here for a good time." Our hearts are broken because our time with him is over for now but we also take comfort knowing that Doc made the most of his time on earth. He lived more in his short life than some live in a hundred years. The world is a better place because Doc was in it. Doc is survived by his parents: Michelle and Brandon Butler, his two brothers: Wyatt and Jesye, his paternal grandparents; Grant and Margaret of Marriott-Slaterville, his maternal grandparents: Diana (Cal) Buttars of Clarkston and Vance (Kathy) Blackner of Layton. He's also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins that he loved dearly and many loyal friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Farr West Stake Center, 2132 W. 2700 No. Viewings will be held at the church on Monday, June 26th from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Plain City Cemetery.
